Bali & Komodo Gay Cruise 2015 Itinerary
Day 1 - Friday, April 29, 2016
Bali, Indonesia
Om Swasti Astu! Welcome to Bali. We will have welcome cocktails and an included welcome dinner in the evening on Day 1, prior to checking out one of the local gay bars.
Day 2 - Saturday, April 30, 2016
Bali
Early on Day 2 we'll head to Serangan in East Bali where we'll board our private motorized Buginese motorsailer.
After settling in, we'll sail up along the east coast of Bali towards the bay of Ambo (Teluk Ambo), with lunch along the way. Here we'll visit the Water Palace of Amlapura and admire the rice terraces of a rarely visited region of Bali (northeast). This evening we cross the famous "Wallace Line", the Lombok Strait between Bali and Lombok.
Day 3 - Sunday, May 1, 2016
Lombok
Docked in Labuhan Lombok, east Lombok, we head into the interior of the island, untouched by the crowds frequenting the west. We will visit a pottery village, attend a local dance performance and enjoy a local lunch on the way. After re-embarkation we move to the small island of Kondo, where we will visit a coral conservation project, a refreshing swim and perhaps a snorkel above the local reef.
Day 4 - Monday, May 2, 2016
Satonda Today we'll set foot on the island of Satonda, the remains of an ancient extinct volcano with its stunning crater lake and beautiful coral gardens. A highlight of our visit is the sight of thousands of flying foxes that fill the sky at dusk. Following sunset, we depart for our overnight journey to Wera.
Day 5 - Tuesday, May 3, 2016
Wera This morning we'll arrive to Wera on the east coast of the island of Sumbawa. Wera is a Buginese settlement famous for its boatbuilding, where we'll see all kinds of ships in various stages of construction.
We stroll through the village to visit the locals before sailing to Sangean island (weather permitting), an active volcano towering 1800 meters above the surrounding waters. When we reach shore, we visit the tiny settlement on the island and head for an option hike up the mountain. In the afternoon we sail to the island of Banta, the first within the boundaries of the Komodo National Park, uninhabited and perfect for some excellent swimming and snorkelling. Here we spend a quiet and peaceful night.
Day 6 - Wednesday, May 4, 2016
Komodo Island
Today we wake up at anchor, just off Komodo Island, one of 80 odd islands of Komodo National Park. Once on shore we head on an early morning trek through the park searching for the prehistorical-looking Komodo Lizards. After re-embarking we will sail to 'red-beach' where particles of red coral are mixed with the sand to create a beach like no other. Here we swim and snorkel over one of the richest reefs in Eastern Indonesia with its stunning variety of coral and fish on display.
Day 7 - Thursday, May 5, 2016
Rinca Island
Today we will visit the ranger station of Loh Buaya on Rinca Island, well-known for its diverse wildlife. Apart from Komodo dragons, we may spot monkeys, wild buffaloes and deer on our way to the top of the hills where we're treated to a stunning vista. This evening our crew will prepare a special farewell beach barbecue where we'll dine under the star-studded night sky. Following dinner we sail to the bay of Labuhanbajo where we spend another quiet night.
Day 8 - Friday, May 6, 2016
Flores
After our last early morning swim we say goodbye to our crew and boat, and time permitting we visit a local market or witness the whip dance in the village of Melo, a 30 minute drive from the centre of Labuan Bajo where our tour will end. A complimentary group transfer will be provided to the local airport where you can fly to Denpasar, or Ende.
