We designed our newest cruise to showcase some of the world's most fascinating destinations, from the mythical Dalmatian coast to classical Rome, and from the hills of Corsica to the super-hip city of Marseilles. Explore the greenest of the Greek isles with our day in Corfu, before settling in for a relaxing Atlantis day at sea.
After an amazing day at sea, the eternal city of Rome awaits, with awesome opportunities to explore both one of the world's greatest cities and the breathtaking surrounding countryside. Venice, Italy Comprised of over 120 islands in the Adriatic Sea, Venice is one of the world's most unusual (and most beautiful) cities. A romantic gondola ride is one of the best ways to see the city, where canals replace streets, and where residents still use water taxis to navigate the city. Don't miss St. Mark's Basilica, the center of the city, and one of the world's best-known examples of Byzantine architecture, a still-impressive relic from the days when Venice was the world's leading maritime power.
Split, Croatia The largest city on the Adriatic Coast, seaside delight Split has been influenced by being under Roman, Venetian, Austrian, French, Italian and Yugoslav control. There is an abundance of culinary delights throughout its restaurants and wine cellars. Sites such as Diocletian's Palace and Mausoleum, the Grgur Ninski Statue and the Cathedral and Bell Tower of St. Domnius justify its position as a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site. The city's coves offer several lovely beaches, including central Bacvice.
Kotor, Montenegro Kotor offers some of the most well preserved architecture in all the Adriatic coast, with landmarks such as the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon. Built in 1166, there are frescoes dating back hundreds of years, and much of the gold and silver relief work done by the city's master craftsmen of that time are held for safe keeping within its walls. The Old City of Kotor is an ancient trade center, due to its fortified entrance to the sea. It's also a UNESCO World Natural and Historical Heritage Site and Montenegro's most famous town. The Old Town is a well-preserved collection of buildings, churches, squares and stone streets that date back to the Middle Ages. The car-free, walled town is just across the street from the city's cruise-ship dock.
Corfu, Greece One of Greece's most popular islands, Corfu is known as "the green island" because of its 3 million olive trees and flower-strewn countryside. Her Adriatic-style villages offer a fascinating mixture of old tavernas, new cafes, Byzantine churches, discos, and shops. With a history punctuated by battles and conquests, Corfu's is known for her old town, a labyrinth of narrow streets sandwiched between two fortresses.
Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy Whether it's the Forum, the Sistine Chapel, the Colosseum, or St. Peter's Basilica that interests you, Rome is home to a lifetime's worth of historical, architectural, and spiritual sites. You'll also discover Rome to be a modern, vibrant city teeming with crowded cafes, and get lost in this remarkable city.
Ajaccio, Corsica Ajaccio is refreshingly unspoiled with a fantastic summer climate and beautiful landscapes. Incredible red rock formations surrounded by beautiful forest and blue sea. The birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte, there are numerous museums dedicated to Ajaccio's hero. Or visit one of Corsica's stunning beaches.
Marseilles, France Travelers visit the port city of Marseille, the third largest city in France, for the meeting of style and history. The bay, flanked by Fort Saint-Nicolas, and Fort Saint-Jean shelters the Castle of If, from Count of Monte Cristo fame. Watched over by the basilica Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde, the city's pedestrian zones and shopping areas (including the colorful French-African quarter) mix with historical sites.
Barcelona, Spain An important cultural and economic center in Spain, and indeed Europe, Barcelona is known as much for its unique architecture as its gay friendliness. Since its founding, Barcelona has always been a center of art and design, culminating with Gaudi's masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia Basilica, a prime example of Art Nouveau architecture, with its bold color, beautiful tile work and swirling lines. Spend a day wandering through the old Gothic quarter or take a 30-minute trip to Sitges, the famed gay Spanish beach resort.
