Holland America's ms Oosterdam
If you love nature, this all-lesbian summer cruise is for you! You'll see abundant wildlife, magnificent glaciers, breathtaking mountains and forests, and quaint and charming seaside towns, all in the company of 1,400 women of Olivia! Olivia's magical energy tends to bring out much of the wildlife. Watch in wonder as whales, puffins, and tidewater glaciers come into view. Go fly-fishing in pristine wilderness in Juneau, explore the "St. Petersburg of the Pacific" in Sitka, flightsee over Misty Fjords National Monument in Ketchikan, and enjoy a spot of English tea in Victoria, British Columbia. With brown bear sightings a real possibility, and bald eagles flying over the ship, you will truly experience nature's last untamed frontier with your new Olivia friends.
Want to learn a little history? Skagway's narrow-gauge railway and old saloons boasts the gold-rush days of yore, and the "Ska-Gay" Town tour has been customized especially for the ladies of Olivia.
In Glacier Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you'll revel in some of the highest mountain peaks and greenest rainforests in North America. You'll capture snapshots of bald eagles soaring, whales gliding, and brown and black bears puttering across the landscape.
Eat your way through Ketchikan – the Salmon Capital of the World. Learn to salmon fish or go on a king crab feast. Or, for the adventurer in you, take a floatplane to scout out Alaskan bears!
On your days at sea, rest and relax or listen to a lecture and ask questions of local experts who will be on board to share their knowledge of Alaska's culture, food, and wildlife.
Did we forget anything? Oh yes, just that you will experience this journey with 1,380 women just like you.
Your Ship - Holland America's ms Oosterdam
Step aboard Holland America's vista-class ship, the ms Oosterdam, for an amazing experience in relaxed cruising. The ms Oosterdam is built with your comfort and pleasure in mind, with details such as string quartet serenades and a plush three-deck Main Stage where you’ll take in great evening entertainment. This ship will truly become your favorite “home away from home”.
As part of a $300 million brand enhancement initiative, ms Oosterdam received a host of exciting updates, including new lounge, dining and entertainment venues, and completely refreshed suites.
World-class music venues
Some of the most notable additions are heard, as well as seen. Live music has always been the heart and soul of evenings aboard Holland America Line, and now Oosterdam features the full Music Walk experience — with three exciting venues. Lincoln Center Stage showcases an ensemble of outstanding musicians performing multiple programs of chamber music each evening, as well as afternoon recitals on sea days. Billboard Onboard features talented musicians performing dynamic shows centered around 50 years of chart-topping hits. These two new venues join the wildly popular B.B. King’s Blues Club, featuring an eight-piece band that brings the best of Memphis blues to the Queen’s Lounge every night.
The new Gallery Bar joins the variety of lounges and gathering places
Oosterdam offers a wide selection of lounges and gathering places to enjoy — each one unique. The newest is Gallery Bar, featuring an eclectic and whimsical mix of artwork including portraits, landscapes, still-life and abstract pieces. Replacing the Northern Lights nightclub, this sophisticated venue offers an exclusive menu of craft cocktails created by master mixologist Dale DeGroff.
More staterooms, plus reimagined suites
The ship has also added 25 new staterooms — 18 verandah staterooms and seven interior staterooms on Deck 10 (Observation Deck) near the Crow’s Nest. These, along with all staterooms on board, now offer an interactive television system, featuring a large LED flat-screen TV with complimentary movies on demand as well as easy access to the daily program and shipboard information including restaurant overviews, spa services and guest billing.
Suites on board Oosterdam have been completely reimagined with new furniture, wall coverings, carpeting, remodeled bathrooms, integration of a USB outlet on the headboard, bedside LED reading lights, upgraded electrical outlets and more.
The Art of Dining... As You Wish
Every Holland America Line cruise ship offers a delicious variety of culinary offerings, from fine dining to a casual lunch by the pool, to 24-hour In-Room Dining. As part of the recent onboard enhancements, the Lido Buffet is now Lido Market, a marketplace with themed stations offering a select array of delicious options from grab and go to classic comfort food and freshly made salads to dishes from around the globe.
Enjoy an elegant breakfast, leisurely lunch or unforgettable five-course dinner in the main Dining Room, with everything from classic favorites to vegetarian choices as well as regionally inspired cuisine and signature dishes from our international Culinary Council.
Refined and luxurious, the Pinnacle Grill represents the height of exceptional dining on board, with dishes inspired by America’s Pacific Northwest, including delicious seafood and responsibly raised beef. Canaletto offers authentic Italian cuisine whose menu celebrates spartire (Italian for “sharing”).
And, when it’s time for something casual by the pool, there’s nothing like Dive-In, featuring gourmet burgers and hot dogs, as well as grilled chicken breast sandwiches and the vegetarian-friendly portabella mushroom stack.
Onboard activities and enriching experiences
Choose from an array of onboard activities that allow you to pursue new interests or relax and rejuvenate. The Greenhouse Spa & Salon offers spa treatments, a thermal pool and lounge and a variety of salon services. Our fully equipped Fitness Center includes state-of-the-art cardio and weight machines, as well as classes in Yoga, Pilates, indoor cycling and more. On deck enjoy two outdoor pools, along with basketball and volleyball courts.
Digital Workshop, powered by Windows, offers fun, free and informative sessions on how to get the most of today’s technology — from photo editing to creating movies to Cloud storage and security. For those looking to discover their inner chef, enjoy culinary demonstrations or hands-on cooking classes at the Culinary Arts Center.
Welcome to Seattle, the jack of all traits. And what a landscape! Incubator of jazz and grunge, jets and literature, coffee and computer software. Seattle is as much about reinvention as it is a landscape. But what a landscape! There are lakes, mountains and forests everywhere you look. The rest is an archipelago of neighborhoods studded with boutiques and coffee shops. Catch a salmon at Pike Place Market, ride to the top of the Space Needle, sample a local microbrew in Fremont, or slurp a bowl of steaming pho down in the International District.
Day at Sea Monday, June 26, 2017
Take in the views of Alaska with some friends and drink a glass of wine. Or join in one of the dozens of activities the Olivia team has planned just for you! Take a dance lesson, play bingo, head to the casino, or treat yourself to a spa day...the choices are nearly endless!
Founded in 1880 as a mining camp, Juneau sits on the Gastineau Channel and is nestled at the base of Mount Juneau. Juneau offers excellent shopping directly adjacent to the ships. South Franklin Street parallels the ships and offers abundant shops, restaurants and bars. Mendenhall Glacier, at 12 miles long, is just one of the 38 major glaciers that flow from the Juneau Icefield, an expanse of interconnected glaciers that sits just behind the mountains next to the city. Juneau is also the best place to whale watch and has the most whale sightings of any port. You can kayak, dogsled, raft, hike, whale watch, flightsee or fish!
Scenic Cruising Hubbard Glacier Wednesday, June 28, 2017
Hubbard Glacier is a titan on the move, advancing faster than almost any other glacier on the continent. Listen for the loud, deep rumble and wait for the mighty crack and thunderous crash, and keep watch for wildlife in action. Sea lions love to play and snooze so be sure to look for them basking on ice floes. Both humpback whales and orcas live in these waters; keep a lookout for breaching, tail-slapping and feeding. There are also many bald eagles perched atop spruce trees or flying overhead.
Sitka, Alaska Thursday, June 29, 2017
Sitka was once the capital of Russian America, seat of the bishop of Kamchatka, and the most important port on the West Coast for the first half of the 19th century. Upon arrival, you'll be greeted by native Tlingit people, then check out the onion domes of St. Michael Cathedral or catch a performance by the New Archangel Dancers. The dramatic setting in the shadow of Mt. Edgecumbe is one of the loveliest in the Great North.
Ketchikan, Alaska Friday, June 30, 2017
Founded as a salmon cannery site in 1885, Ketchikan's livelihood was initially fishing and for years the city was known as the "Canned Salmon Capital of the World." Many shops and houses are built right out over the water. Besides the main attractions – Creek Street, the Tongass Historical Museum, Totem Bight State Park and Saxman Village – try a flightseeing trip to Misty Fjords National Monument. This 3,570-square-mile wilderness is a natural mosaic of sea cliffs, steep fjords and rock walls jutting 3,000 feet straight out of the ocean. Trips into the Monument, whether by tour boat, small airplane or kayak, provide wildlife sightings like seals, otters, bald eagles and whales.
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Saturday, July 1, 2017
Victoria is a city that started as a Salish Village, became a main port for gold prospectors and opium traders, and then transformed itself into an icon of British gentility after the completion of the trans-Canadian railroad turned neighboring Vancouver into a destination. Two events were seminal: the opening of Butchart Gardens in 1904 and the completion of the Empress Hotel in 1908. Butchart's highlights include the Sunken Garden (built from a former limestone quarry), the Italian Garden, the Japanese Garden, and the Rose Garden (breathe deeply).
