Welcome to Tanzania!
If you joined our Kilimanjaro Climb, this will be a nice relaxing break, but for those of you joining us just for just the safari, get ready for a serious wildlife adventure!
Upon arrival to Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be transferred to our joining point hotel in Arusha. If you aren't arriving very early in the morning, we recommend that you arrive the day before the trip begins so you are ready to go on day 1.
After breakfast and a welcome meeting, our safari begins with a drive to Tarangire National Park. Our tented camp is situated on a 25,000 hectare Maasai communal ranch which is ideally placed for watching the migration of the wildebeest. We'll enjoy lunch prior to an afternoon game drive. We then return to our lodge for sunset cocktails and dinner.
We spend the full day on safari in Tarangire National Park with morning and afternoon game viewing drives. In between, enjoy lunch, and perhaps a dip in the pool.
The lodge is a luxurious tented camp situated close to the shores of Lake Manyara and located on the migratory corridor of Manyara and Tarangire. The camp offers you the unique opportunity to experience and explore the area's interesting eco-system. It is located in a wildlife rich area and offers impressive views of the Rift Valley and Ngorongoro Highlands.
The extraordinary location allows for plenty of wildlife viewing opportunities and one can clearly see migrating herds of wildebeest and zebra followed by predators. Exciting guided game drives and nature walks are also on offer as well as excellent bird-watching on the shores of Lake Manyara.
After breakfast we drive to the Southern Serengeti to our luxurious mobile tented camp, which moves during the season along the edge of the Southern Serengeti for the best chances to spot wildlife, and the Great Migration.
Following lunch we head out on a game drive before returning to camp before sunset to enjoy dinner under the stars.
Covering 14,763 sq km of endlessly rolling savannah plains, the Serengeti is Tanzania's first-established, largest and most famous park wherein tens of thousands of hoofed animals roam in a constant and unremitting search for the fresh grasslands upon which their survival depends. The million-plus wildebeest are the predominant herbivore and also the main prey of a huge cast of large carnivores, principally lion and hyena.
On day 4 we spend the full day exploring the Serengeti/Ndutu area with morning and afternoon game drives.
Our luxurious mobile camp is designed to be lightweight enough to move seasonally, and is located in the Ndutu area from December through March. From December through March, the wildebeest migration moves in and out of the Ndutu area, which is located in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, just south of Serengeti National Park. Our camp location provides easy access to prime game viewing areas around Lakes Ndutu and Masek. In addition to the almost two million wildebeest and zebra that move through the area each year, Ndutu is home to cheetah, lion, giraffe and hundreds of bird species. During February's calving season, the wildebeest give birth to 8,000 babies a day.
After breakfast, we depart with packed lunch boxes and drive through the Olduvai Gorge before descending to the Ngorongoro Crater floor for a day of game viewing.
This protected area is located in the Great Rift Valley, and the Crater is a gigantic fracture in the earth's crust. The magnificent landscape consists of volcanoes, mountains, plains, lakes, forests and archaeological sites. At 1,600m/5,250ft above sea level, the bottom of the Crater is dotted with watering holes, offering shelter to almost 30,000 animals in an area naturally enclosed by the slopes of the volcano. The Crater elephants are strangely, mainly bulls. There is a small number of black rhino, and the bird life is largely seasonal. We may also set our sights on lions, elephants, zebra, hippo, buffalos, and rhino.
After a full day of game drives, we head to our lodge which rests on the soft, red-brown hills of the Ngorongoro Crater. This evening we overnight at a fantastic owner-run lodge that features stunning local decor, expansive rooms and opulant ammenitites.
This morning we visit Lake Manyara National Park, best known for spotting flamingos. We'll feast on lunch, then head on a walk to a small waterfall and cave that elephants are known to frequent. This evening we share our last meal together as a group.
This morning we’ll check out of our lodge, then head back to Arusha where we’ll have an included lunch before parting ways and say goodbye.
We then drive back to Arusha where we enjoy an early lunch at the Arusha Coffee Lodge before each guest is dropped off at a local hotel. We will also provide a group transfer to the airport for those departing today.
