Masada Gay Tour

Day 4 - Wednesday, June 6, 2018
Masada & the Galilee

We have an early morning wake up to hike in the cool darkness to the very top of the ancient mountain fortress of Masada, which was built in the year 30 BCE by King Herod, whose architectural feats have left their mark throughout Israel. At the beginning of the great revolt against Rome in the year 68 CE, Masada was conquered by a group of Jewish zealots, and Masada became their last stronghold. In the year 72, the Romans besieged Masada and succeeded in reaching the steep fortress after constructing a huge earthen ramp on its western side. In the year 73, the 960 Jewish zealots living at the top of Masada chose to commit suicide rather than to fall into the hands of the Romans alive. Their deeds left behind a saga of courage, heroism, and martyrdom.

On the top of Masada we will watch the day begin with a spectacular sunrise over the Moab Mountains and the Judean Desert. At the top of the mountain, discover the history of one the greatest Jewish symbols of hope and pride. You will descend the mountain fortress by cable car, before enjoying a breakfast back at the hotel resort, with free time at the Dead Sea to enjoy the SPA and the private beach. Then we depart the Dead Sea Resort and drive to the Galilee in Northern Israel, where we shall visit Arbel Cliff and enjoy a breathtaking view of the Sea of Galilee and the Golan Heights.

After the spectacular views Check in at your hotel at the Sea of Galilee for Sun and fun at a private beach, before having a group dinner at the Hotel, with an overnight stay at Gai Beach Hotel in Tiberias.

In nearby Qumran, ancient scrolls of the Hebrew Bible and related texts which were written as far back as 408 BC were found in caves, along with Roman currency. No visit to the area is complete without a tour of the city of Tiberias where Nadav was born and his father served as Mayor. Some of our favorite spots in this ancient city are the hot springs, seaside promenade, and archaeological sites which transport you to Roman rule. Safed, another central city on our itinerary, is also a favorite of Madonna's (or Esther, her Kabbalistic name); she never neglects it on her frequent visits to Israel. It is known as a hub of Kabbalah activity and study which attracts followers from around the world. A city full of winding stone alleyways and mystical prayer sites that leave you feeling inspired whether you are a believer or not. The Artists' Colony is also a necessary attraction, religious and secular art, modern and vintage, crafts and fine arts. A wide sampling of creative activity which guests can engage in and immerse themselves in. The old German colony established by the Templars
Haifa, just an hour away from Tel Aviv, is Israel's third largest city and one of its most attractive. Situated between the alluring Mediterranean Sea and Carmel mountain, the city's landscape provides the observer with a rich variety of succulent sights.

In a regal spot at the summit of a green hill is the Bahai Temple which functions as the center of the Bahai faith. This magnificent structure, complete with a spectacular golden dome and an intricate eight window design, is the interment spot for one of the founders of the religion. On the hills leading up to the Temple are the stunningly designed renowned garden terraces with its flowing staircases, flowing streams of clear water, and brightly colored flora and fauna.

Haifa, Israel Gay Tour

In the street below is the old German colony established by the Templars. The homes and establishments of these affluent settlers have been preserved along with their stone paths and other trappings from the period. Beautiful cafes, restaurants, and boutique bed and breakfasts have also sprung up on this street, often utilizing the original constructions.

A romantic walk at sunset in this area gives the sensation of being transported to a more peaceful and serene time. The Museum of Art has a wealth of pieces which exhibit international artists. However, the strength of the museum lies in its emphasis on Israeli artists, giving the visitor an opportunity to be enthralled by the originality and creativity of local pieces.
