Indochine - Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos Gay Tour Itinerary

Day 0 - Friday, February 3, 2017
Depart Home for Saigon, Vietnam
This is a travel day, with tour services beginning tomorrow in Saigon. Book a flight from your home city to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam. When searching for flights online use the airport code SGN for Saigon arrival, and HAN for your Hanoi departure. As with most of our international tours, we recommend that you consider arriving a day early to get over jet lag. We will be happy to help you with a private hotel transfer and reserve additional night(s) at our group hotel if you decide to arrive in Ho Chi Minh City early.

Day 1 - Saturday, February 4, 2017
Arrive in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam
Vietnam Gay Tour - Ho Chi Minh CityYou will arrive at Tan Son Nhat Airport, located about five miles outside of Ho Chi Minh City, which the locals still call Saigon. Since most international flights arrive in the late evening, you will be met at the airport and transferred to our downtown hotel for your first overnight stay here. There are no official tour activities today, but those who arrive early and have the energy will gather for an impromptu dinner this evening. Tour activities commence tomorrow morning.

Hotel: Pullman Saigon Centre Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City, 5*

Day 2 - Sunday, February 5, 2017
Sightseeing in Saigon and Cholon
Saigon, Vietnam gay tourA vibrant metropolis, Saigon teems with energy, activity and motion. The city is a pleasing mix of modern skyline with colonial buildings and traditional temples, where traditional customs meet modern life. Our sightseeing begins with a tour of the historic center, strolling along Dong Khoi Street, the main shopping thoroughfare and heart of old colonial Saigon. Pass by classic European-style landmarks such as the ornate City Hall (Hotel De Ville), the old Opera House (both may only be viewed from the outside), and pay a quick visit to the neo-Romanesque Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office.

Afterwards, dive into modern history with a tour of the Reunification Palace, the 1960s-style former residence of the South Vietnamese president which was famously stormed by tanks on April 30, 1975, signifying the fall of South Vietnam. It has been preserved as it was on that day, and the original tanks remain on display near the entrance gates.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam gay tourContinue to the harrowing War Remnants Museum, which comprehensively documents the travails of the long Vietnam War (here it is called the "American War"). Inside are detailed photographic exhibitions; outside is a collection of tanks, planes and weapons.

Next we go to the historic center of Saigon to visit the Emperor Of Jade Pagoda, before heading to Cholon (Chinatown). Explore the highlights of this fascinating area, beginning with a brief visit to the contemporary Binh Tay Market, the Thien Hau Pagoda, and finally the central Ben Thanh Market, where vendors display a vast array of goods and handicrafts. This evening, Toto Tours hosts a Welcome Dinner at the Koto Saigon Restaurant. Overnight in Saigon.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 5 - Wednesday, February 8, 2017
The Temples of Angkor
Cambodia gay tour - Banteay SreiEnjoy a full day of sightseeing among the glories of ancient Angkor. Seemingly small in comparison to the other Angkor temples, Banteay Srei is considered to be the jewel of classical Khmer art, built in pink sandstone and adorned with unusually delicate carvings. Banteay Samre is a mid-12th century temple dedicated to the god Vishnu. Ta Prohm is one of the most popular attractions of Angkor as much of the jungle has not been cleared and it looks very much as most of the area's monuments would have appeared when European explorers first stumbled across them.

The five brick towers of Prasat Kravan date back to 921 A.D. and are notable for the bas-reliefs cut into the bricks on the interior walls. Sras Srang is a tiny island in the middle of a basin containing the stone base remains of what was once a wooden temple. Banteay Kdei Temple is a massive Buddhist temple surrounded by four huge concentric walls, dating from the second half of the 12th century. Thommanon mirrors Chau Say Tevoda to the north, as it was built around the same time and has a similar layout. Both are dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu. We return to our hotel in the late afternoon for a free evening and an overnight stay.

Meals: Breakfast & Lunch
Hotel: Shinta Mani Resort, Siem Reap, 5*

Day 6 - Thursday, February 9, 2017
Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom
Angkor Wat, Cambodia gay tourThis morning, we travel from our hotel by tuk tuk to visit the world-famous Angkor Wat temple dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu by King Suryavarman II, who reigned between 1131 and 1150. Constructed over a period of 30 years, it showcases some of the most beautiful examples of Khmer and Hindu art. Angkor Wat features the longest continuous bas-relief in the world, which runs along the outer gallery walls and narrates stories from Hindu mythology. In 1992 the UNESCO World Heritage Committee declared the monument, and the whole city of Angkor, a World Heritage Site.

Cambodia gay tour - Angkor ThomThe fortified city of Angkor Thom covers an area of 6 square miles. Enclosed by a wall and wide moats, the city includes many of Angkor's most popular sights. Enter by the monumental South Gate over a causeway lined on either side by statues of demons and gods, each carrying a giant serpent deity. Continue to the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper Kings, former spaces for public ceremonies, both adorned with dramatic bas reliefs. Visit the ruined Baphuon, Royal Enclosure and Phimeanakas before continuing to the mysterious Bayon Temple to explore the galleries of beautifully preserved bas reliefs. Enter the central sanctuary, where you will find giant stone faces smiling enigmatically down at you from every angle. We return to the hotel for a break after sightseeing and then go out to a local restaurant for dinner. Overnight in Siem Reap.

Trip Notes

Entry Requirements
For citizens of the United States and Canada, visitors must have both a passport (valid for 6 months from entering the country) and a separate visa for each of the three countries visited on this tour.

Vietnam - For this particular itinerary you need to get a multiple-entry visa. There is now a fairly simple procedure for pre-registering to obtain your visa upon arrival. You must get a Letter of Invitation in advance. In order to facilitate this process, we require that you send us a color scan of your passport detail pages with your photo and your signature. Alternatively, you can obtain your visa in advance through the Vietnam Embassy (or a Consulate) in your home country.

Cambodia - It is possible to obtain an electronic visa for travel to Cambodia. Visas can also be obtained in advance at any Cambodian embassy or consulate.

Laos - Laos allows visitors to obtain their visas upon arrival with the properly-completed form, two passport photos, and application fee. Visas can also be obtained in advance at any Laos embassy or consulate.

Immunizations
Please consult your personal physician or a travel clinic, and refer to the guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control for travelers.

Water
You should only drink boiled or bottled water throughout the duration of this tour. Complimentary bottled mineral water will be available on our motorcoach at all times.

Exit Requirements
Departure taxes will most likely be included in the cost of your airline tickets.

What to Bring
It is difficult to specify "good" or "bad" seasons when it comes to visiting this vast region of Indochina. When one area is wet and cold or steamy and hot, there is always somewhere else that is sunny and pleasant. Temperatures will be warmest in Ho Chi Minh City and Siem Reap, varying roughly between 70 to 88 Degrees F. Luang Prabang should range between 60 to 70, while Hanoi will be our coolest stop at between 60 and 70 degrees. Pack light and bring mix-and-match clothes that can be layered for warmth. Pack medications in a carry-on just in case your bags don't arrive when you do. We suggest leaving expensive jewelry at home.

Money Matters
Vietnam: The currency unit is the Dong (VND). Major credit cards are now more widely accepted throughout the country at most hotels and restaurants, but you will need cash at local shops. On March 21, 2014, the exchange rate was 20,900 VND to the US Dollar.

Laos: The official currency is the Lao kip (LAK), although Thai bhat and US dollars are often welcome. On March 21, 2014, the exchange rate was 7,900 LAK to the US Dollar.

Cambodia: The official currency is the riel (KHR), but the US Dollar is the currency favored by the locals. On March 21, 2014, the exchange rate was 3,935 KHR to the US Dollar.

Tipping: Tipping makes a huge difference in the lives of those who work for us here, as the local wages are minimal at best. We will make group tips where appropriate, and guidelines will be provided prior to departure with a suggested contribution to a group tipping fund.
