Amazon Rainforest gay tourSpanish conquistadors called Peru part of a "New World" but it turned out to be incredibly ancient, well-developed civilization. The Inca Empire was the largest in pre-Colombian South America, centered in the Andean mountain range, which average 13,000 feet above sea level. Among the most impressive features of the once-vast Incan civilization were enormous temples, palaces, fortresses and public works, skillfully erected with a minimum of engineering equipment. Perhaps South America's most spectacular location, the sacred site Machu Picchu's remote location in nearly impassable terrain high above a river canyon cloud forest virtually guaranteed it would become the "Lost City of the Incas."

Peru's greatest natural wonder is the region known as "Amazonia," considered the lung of our planet for its vast, dense jungle vegetation. This unspoiled zone's location in the tropics holds over 70% of the living species of the planet. The jungle portion of our journey takes us to a beautiful rainforest lodge located along one of the countless Amazonia waterways to experience some of its amazing biodiversity. We will also visit the country's capital, Lima, and Cusco, one of the world's highest cities, on what will surely be one of the top adventure vacation experiences of your life!

Day 3 - Monday, July 4, 2016
Fly to Cusco / Sacred Valley
Peru gay tour - Sacred Valley ArtisanThis morning we fly to Cusco, arriving in time for lunch at a beautiful restaurant overlooking the main plaza. Because we need to acclimatize to the high altitude, we save Cusco touring for another day and drive after lunch to the Sacred Valley, which is at a lower altitude. On the way we visit Awanakancha, a center where South American Cameloids (members of the camel family) – Llamas, Alpacas, Guanacos, and Vicunas – are bred, and the Inkary Museum showcasing the most important pre-Columbian cultures of Peru. Finally, we arrive at Chinchero, a town of Inca origins where the former Tupac Yupanqui Hacienda is located, as well as a charming colonial church built on top of Inca remains. We check in to our hotel and the evening is free.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Day 4 - Tuesday, July 5, 2016
Chinchero / Maras Moray

Continue with a 2-3 hour hike which offers an opportunity to enjoy both the archaeological and aesthetic qualities of the Sacred Valley. The hike begins at the picturesque town of Maras, which has a colonial feel, and the nearby salt mines present excellent photo opportunities. From there we hike the 4 miles to Moray, a fascinating archaeological site comprising a series of concentric agricultural terraces, some as deep as 450 feet, while enjoying the magnificent views this part of the Sacred Valley offers. The evening is free.

Day 5 - Wednesday, July 6, 2016
Machu Picchu

It was the site of the Incas' greatest victory against the Spanish during the wars of conquest. Later we transfer to the train station to board the Vistadome Train (10:30 am) to Machu Picchu, where a late morning arrival (12:11 pm) gives you time to begin your explorations of this breath-taking Incan citadel overlooking the Urubamba River. After lunch here, we explore the city's ruins with our guide, as you visualize the lives of the priests, craftsmen, and servants who lived in this seemingly uninhabitable citadel. After the site closes at sunset, we drive down to the banks of the Urubamba Riva for dinner and overnight at the best hotel in the area.

You can hike up to the Inti Punku, or famous Sun Gate (approx. 2 hours) or hike up the Huayna Picchu, the highest mountain which is part of the ruins (2.5 hours). You may reenter Machu Picchu to explore more fully the site itself, the Temple of the Moon further down the trail, the Old Mountain on the south end of the Citadel, or hike the much more difficult trail to the Happy Mountain. After lunch on your own, we meet at a designated spot and time to return to Ollantaytambo station by Vistadome Train, and then on to Cusco by bus. Upon arrival, the remainder of the evening is free. Drive to the Cathedral on the Plaza de Armas and Santo Domingo, a Dominican church and convent built upon the foundations of the Koricancha, or the 'place of gold'. After seeing the sights of the ancient city, continue on to the ruins of Sacsayhuaman, a true testimony to Incan architectural skills. Built using massive stones (one weighs 125 tons!) These blocks were cut and fitted together with incredible precision without a single drop of mortar to hold them in place. Returning to our hotel, the afternoon and evening are free to enjoy Cusco. Enjoy the breathtaking vistas and get the chance to watch white-throated toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, squirrel monkeys and the three-toed sloth. Finally we traverse a 650-foot wooden bridge over the flooded ecosystem of the aguajales swamps. Trip Notes

Entry Requirements
For citizens of the United States and Canada, no visas are necessary for travel to Peru. All you need is a passport, valid for at least six months from first arrival in Lima.

Immunizations
No vaccinations are required, but you may want to consider obtaining the immunizations recommended by the Center for Disease Control. It is recommended that you take anti-malaria medication during our time in Puerto Maldonado and the Amazon. It is always good to make sure your tetanus booster is current.

Exit Requirements
All departure taxes are included as part of your international air ticket. You do not need to pay anything extra to leave the country.

What to Bring
Peru really has only two seasons—wet and dry, but in such a geographically diverse country local weather conditions vary greatly. In July, it is winter in Peru, so daily temperatures in Lima range between 60 and 67 degrees F. It will be colder in Cuzco and Machu Picchu, where temperatures are likely to be 35 degrees F at night and up to about 60 degrees F during the daytime. The Amazon Rainforest will be much warmer, with temperatures between 60 and 86 degrees F. High altitudes in Cuzco could cause difficulties for some people. Be sure to check with your doctor and follow his or her recommendations. Electric voltage in Peru is 220 volts, 60 cycles and the electrical outlets require a connector with 2 round prongs. Attire is casual, so try to bring just one piece of checked luggage plus your carry-on. Pack any medications you need in a carry-on bag. Leave valuable jewelry at home!

Money Matters
The currency of Peru is the Nuevo Sol (PEN). Bills are for 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 Nuevos Soles. Coins are for 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents of a Nuevo Sol. As of September 25, 2015, $1US was equal to 3.161 Peruvian Nuevo Sol. Avoid changing money into local currency prior to leaving the U.S, as you will get the worst exchange rate. Plan to change dollars into local currency upon arrival, or use an ATM machine (widely available in Lima and other cities). Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Diners Club are widely accepted in Peru.

Travel Insurance
We strongly encourage you purchase Travel Insurance to cover all aspects of your travel in Peru.
