Whales of Magdalena Bay Mexico All-Lesbian Adventure Cruise 2026
January 27 February 01, 2026
National Geographic Lindblad Expeditions Sea Bird
This trip is gray whale immersion at its best! Have you ever wanted to experience an encounter with a gray whale? Or perhaps you have been to Magdalena Bay for only a few hours; had a short interaction with a gray whale, enjoyed the beautiful sand dunes, abundant wildlife with sea birds and yearned for more time there? Enjoy several days in the company of majestic gray whales along the 31-mile stretch of Baja California’s Magdalena Bay during the best time and place in the world to encounter gray whale mothers and their curious calves.
On this compact trip, we explore the bay aboard our nimble National Geographic Sea Bird expedition ship and set out in local pangas for up-close encounters. These whales are very curious about humans and will sometimes come to the pangas, many times with their babies, and allow themselves to be touched.
But there’s more! Onboard naturalists will educate us about wildlife as we watch for whales and dolphins, kayak or paddleboard through mangrove forests abundant with many species of birds, hike desert islands, capture beautiful lighting on sand dunes, look for pelicans, great blue herons and ospreys, and enjoy long walks (or try out our fat-tire bikes) and soak up the sun on pristine beaches.

Your Ship - National Geographic Sea Bird
Welcome to the National Geographic Sea Bird! Accommodating just 62 guests in 31 outside cabins, the National Geographic Sea Bird is large enough to operate in remote environments in comfort, yet small enough to enter ports and narrow inlets inaccessible to bigger ships. It carries sea kayaks and a fleet of expedition landing crafts, providing easy access to coastlines and other places of interest. Each cabin faces outside and all cabins have windows and are attractively and comfortably furnished with lower berths, private bathrooms, reading lights and individual climate control.
Public Areas National Geographic Sea Bird features a library; global market; lounge with full-service bar and facilities for films, slide shows and presentations; observation deck; partially covered sun deck with chairs and tables, and LEXspa. Our “open Bridge” provides guests an opportunity to meet our officers and captain and learn about navigation.
Meals Meals are served in the dining room at a single seating with unassigned tables for an informal atmosphere and easy mingling. Breakfast and lunch are usually buffet with a variety of choices, and dinner is sit-down service with 3-4 sustainable choices. The menu features locally inspired fare, and locally sourced where possible.

Loreto, Mexico / San Carlos / Embark Ship Tuesday, January 27, 2026
Arrive Loreto / San Carlos / Embark National Geographic Sea Bird
Arrive in Loreto and be transferred to our hospitality room at the Hotel La Mision. Lunch is provided for those who arrive to the hospitality room prior to 2 pm. Flights should arrive by 2:30 pm in time for a 3 or 3:30 pm group transfer to San Carlos. Embark National Geographic Sea Bird in the evening, anchored off the coast of Isla Santa Margarita.
You will need to fly into and out of Loreto International Airport (LTO). We encourage all guests to arrive a day early to avoid the stress of unexpected delays. We will be using the beautiful La Mision Loreto Hotel as our host hotel. We will be providing stretchers with special pricing for Ocean View rooms approximately 9-11 months prior to the trip for those who would like to come in a day or two early.
Bahía Almejas / Rehusa Channel / Isla Magdalena Wednesday, January 28, 2026
Awake in Bahía Almejas, the southernmost part of the bay. We’ll make a special stop to view a large frigatebird colony on Isla Santa Margarita before heading out on our first whale-watching trip of the voyage. The whales in Bahía Almejas tend to be very active and seemingly oblivious to our presence. As we explore this bay and the Rehusa Channel via local panga, our team will do whatever it takes to provide you with memorable and meaningful experiences. During lunch, we’ll sail toward Isla Magdalena to explore the ever-shifting sand dunes on a cross-island walk to one of the most pristine beaches in the Pacific. Take a dip or tally the treasure found on what we affectionately call "sand dollar beach".
Transit the Hull Canal / Boca de Soledad Thursday, January 29, 2026
Spend the morning transiting the scenic winding Hull Canal. Within its narrow channels, bordered by mangroves and sand dunes and filled with abundant wildlife, we’ll hang out on deck with our keen-eyed naturalists to spot species and hear expert commentary. Weather permitting, we’ll explore the vast mangrove system via kayak and Zodiac. Bird-watching here can be excellent. Among the species we might see are diving pelicans, wheeling cormorants, terns, great blue herons, ibis, whimbrels, and willets. Bird watching can be excellent here with abundant seabirds in action and shorebirds patrolling the beaches as they fatten up and prepare for long journeys to Arctic breeding grounds. This afternoon, we’ll head out to explore the whale-rich waters of Boca de Soledad.
Boca de Soledad Friday, January 30, 2026
Each winter, during their long migration, gray whales travel south from their Arctic feeding grounds to breed and give birth to their calves in these sheltered waters, often called "Grand Central" for California gray whales. We'll spend two full days observing and, with luck, interacting with these majestic creatures. Together with savvy local fishermen we’ve known for years, we’ll venture out in expedition landing craft to view the numerous mother-calf pairs that thrive in this region. We’ll also have an opportunity to explore the beaches, and if you’re feeling up to it, grab one of our fat-tire bikes to roam the seemingly endless beaches.
