Few venues provoke as much comment - both positive and negative - amongst gay visitors as Cafe La Belle, as in its early days (on the upper floor of the Yumbo) it was very much at the heart of the gay scene.
Now the overseas outpost of a legendary drag bar in Manchester in the UK, it now stages a much bigger and arguably more professional show than visitors will have seen in recent times. It's a big slice of British northern club entertainment, with cute dancers and polished drag acts. La Belle is soon to open a rooftop restaurant to provide pre-show meals for its customers, who are predominantly British and straight.
 If this is your kind of thing, you'll love it, and the staging is often classily done. The big showbar is packed nearly every night, and the performances are targeted at a broad family audience, though it obviously still has a gay sensibility. There's no admission or cover charge, but drinks prices (as you'd expect) are slightly higher than some other bars.
