Day 1 - Saturday, March 10, 2012
• Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro airport you will be met by our representative. • After checking that you have all your luggage and belongings he will take you to one of our vehicles and transfer you to your hotel for a briefing on the following day's climb. • Overnight at Keys Hotel in Moshi.
Day 2 - Sunday, March 11, 2012
• After breakfast, you will be collected from the lodge and transferred to Marangu Gate (1800 m) where the actual hike begins. • Hike three to five hours through a fascinating rain forest to Mandara Hut (2700 m). Blue monkeys are sometimes seen. Look for a tiny flower called Impatiens Kilimanjaris; endemic to Kilimanjaro. • Hot lunch en-route. If you wish you can hike up to Maundi Crater (45 min) or rest upon arrival at Mandara Hut. • Afternoon tea, dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut.
Weather: warm and humid. Wear T-shirt, shorts and lighter shoes.
Water: available the whole time from a river along the route.
Day 3 - Monday, March 12, 2012
• After breakfast, start hiking slowly to Horombo Hut (3700 m). • Leave the last glade of forest and follow the gently ascending path through the open alpine moorland. • Today's hike takes five to seven hours. • Hot lunch en route. • The altitude begins to make itself felt, cautioning you to walk slowly. • "Pole pole" (slowly slowly in Swahili) is the order of the day while enjoying the flora and long view. Giant Senecios stand tall along the path. Kibo and Mawenzi Peak can be seen on a clear day. • Afternoon tea, dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.
Weather: warm in the morning but cooler in the afternoon when clouds gather. Wear shorts, T-shirt and hiking boots. Carry a long sleeved shirt in the day path for the cool winds.
Water: fill water bottles at Mandara Hut. There is a stream half way to Horombo Hut.
Day 4 - Tuesday, March 13, 2012
• Today, leave the moorland and enter the alpine desert, past giant lobelia and walk on the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi Peak. • Hot lunch along the way. • Afternoon tea, dinner and overnight at Kibo Hut.
Weather: It gets cooler as the altitude increases. Wear trousers and long sleeved shirt and have a thin jacket or jumper in the day pack.
Water: fill up bottles at Horombo Hut. Two hours from Horombo Hut is the last water sign. The porters will bring water for tea and the hike in the early morning.
Day 5 - Wednesday, March 14, 2012
• Start around 1 a.m., reaching Gillman's Point (5685 m) at sunrise. • The path from Kibo to Gillman's is the most demanding four hours of the whole climb. • Continue another two hours to the roof of Africa, Uhuru Peak (5895 m). • Descend to Kibo Hut for a hot lunch then to Horombo Hut. • Meals and overnight at Horombo Hut.
Day 6 - Thursday, March 15, 2012
• Hike back to the Marangu Gate and park's headquarters. • At Marangu Gate, you can sign your name and details in a register. This is also where successful climbers receive their summit certificates. • Those climbers who reached Gillman's Point are issued with green certificates and those who reached Uhuru Peak receive gold certificates. • Met by a driver guide with packed lunch and drive back to your hotel in Moshi.
Day 7 - Friday, March 16, 2012
• A full day driving with stops along the way brings us to Arusha where we overnight. • We check into our 4 star hotel and relax with time at leisure to sleep and prepare for our exciting few days spotting animals in the wild!
Day 8 - Saturday, March 17, 2012
• Leaving Arusha, we enter vehicles which take us deep into the confines of the Serengeti National Park, one of the world's top parks, which is usually teaming with some of the most revered and wonderful animals on planet earth. • En-route we stop at the Serengeti information centre where we can read about both national parks. • We also stop at some ideal viewing points and at a beautiful lunch stop. • From here, our journey begins in the park spotting animals, and exploring the area. • Tonight, we stay in tented accommodation under a sky full of stars. This is an amazing experience to be in the wild and one you will remember for ever.
Day 9 - Sunday, March 18, 2012
• The sprawling plains of the Serengeti National Park protects the highest concentration of large mammals on earth, including 2,500 lions, elephants, cheetah, leopards, zebra, rhinos, hippopotamus, wildebeest and birdlife. • Covering 14,763 square kilometres across the north of Tanzania, the varied landscape offers spectacular contrasts, including open grassy plains, hills, rocky terrain, acacias, savannah woodlands, riverine forests, and a spattering of swamps and lakes. • The park is connected to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in its south-western corner and Masai Mara Reserve across the border in Kenya. • Tonight, we camp on the rim of Ngorongoro Crater.
Day 10 - Monday, March 19, 2012
• This morning, we rise to explore the Ngorongoro Crater, a volcanic basin which attracts an abundance of wildlife and outstanding views. It is incredibly lush and fertile and a pristine area for you to view all your favourite animals.
• After lunch, we head back to Moshi where we check into the hotel and sleep in a proper bed. • The remainder of the day is at leisure to relax and unwind.
Day 11 - Tuesday, March 20, 2012
• The tour ends after breakfast where you are transferred to the airport for your flight home.
