The Maasai Mara is one of its kind as this is the home of all the big five – rightly named big five – not because of their size but because of each of these animals were highly poached. Some for their horns believed to be aphrodisiac whilst others for their skin. Whatever the reason, the Maasai Mara has continued to be a safe haven for these animals. The Masai Mara boasts more than 450 species of birds which includes raptors. Apart from being one of the oldest hotels in Kenya and indeed Africa, the Norfolk has gone through various transitions over the decades, from restyling and renovations, to change of ownership.

However, the hotel has always impressed generation after generation of visitors with its high standards of service, luxurious style, hospitality and comfort.

The Fairmont Norfolk Hotel, NairobiMany of the bedrooms overlook the hotel's famous courtyards where colorful trees and gardens create a warm and natural ambiance. Sweetwaters Serena Camp, Ol Pejeta
Sweetwaters Serena Camp, Ol PejetaA sheltered oasis, clustered around a waterhole and set in the pristine calm of a private wildlife conservancy, Sweetwaters Tented Camp is in a class of its own. Abounding with wildlife, unfettered by the more rigorous strictures of the Kenyan National Parks and designed to offer a charming blend of under canvas ambiance and uncompromising luxury, it has long been the preferred retreat of wilderness and safari lovers alike.

Sweetwaters Serena Camp One of only four private game reserves in Kenya, Ol Pejeta Conservancy excels in the provision of privileged seclusion and private game viewing.

Thanks to its private status it also allows such unforgettable pleasures as the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary (the only place in Kenya to see these highly endangered animals), visits to Morani, a tame black rhino, night game drives, guided bush walks and camel-trekking across game-teaming plains.

Accommodation is provided in 39 luxuriously appointed tents. Each tent has a thatched roof, an en-suite bathroom and its own veranda with views over the waterhole. Full room service is provided.

Samburu Intrepids Club, Samburu National Reserve
Samburu Intrepids Club Perched on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River in the arid wilderness of Samburu National Park, Samburu Intrepids Camp has long been a popular base for exploring the ancient wilds of Kenya's Northern Frontier.

The 27 tents proffer simple but luxurious accommodation, with large four-poster beds, modern bathrooms, and secluded balconies overlooking the riverbanks where elephant and buffalo regularly come to drink.

Samburu Intrepids CampThe camp is also renowned for its inventive kitchens, which have replaced the standard camp buffets with wholesome al fresco dishes, homemade breads, preserves and desserts. Intrepids is run by a delightful Samburu crew who will introduce you to their wild world from a rich variety of perspectives: on foot, from a four-wheel-drive vehicle, on a river raft, or from the back of a tame camel.

Fairmont Mt.Kenya Safari Club, Mount Kenya National Park
Fairmont Mt.Kenya Safari ClubOne of Kenya's best known properties, Mount Kenya Safari Club is steeped in colonial history, with a past as colorful as its magnificent gardens. Originally built as a dream home by a wealthy New Yorker for her young French aviator husband, it quickly became a main focal point for the 'Happy Valley' set of the 1930s.

In 1959 William Holden and two friends turned it into one of the most exclusive clubs in the world with founding members including Sir Winston Churchill, Lord Louis Mountbatten, Robert Ruark, Lyndon Johnson, Bob Hope and Bing Crosby.

Mount Kenya Safari ClubThe Club still retains its gracious charm with manicured lawns sweeping to the foothills of Mount Kenya - an ideal stop-off for relaxation in between safaris. There is a variety of distractions for those staying at the Club - horseback riding, golf, trout fishing, tennis, visiting the adjacent wildlife sanctuary (base for the successful breeding program of endangered bongo antelope), or just walking in the beautiful grounds. For those seeking total repose there is a heated swimming pool and a health and beauty center.

Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort, Naivasha
Lake Naivasha Sopa ResortSet in one hundred and fifty acres of grassland studded with Acacia bushes and trees, the resort is not only home to our resident giraffe, waterbuck and both Vervet and Colobus monkeys, but it is also a night stop for the hippos when they leave the lake every night to come and trim the grass on our expansive lawns.

Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort two swimming pools, pool bar, snack kitchen, pizzeria and health spa; tennis court; two conference halls, and stables are widely set apart.

Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort roomDouble storey guest cottages with their ingeniously designed roofs gently sweep away from one side of the main building to form a crescent which leads towards the lake shore. While the upstairs guest rooms have a single king size bed and the downstairs ones have two queen size beds, both have one thing in common and that is an extraordinary amount of space as well as lavishly appointed bathrooms.

Fairmont Mara Safari Club, Masai Mara
Fairmont Mara Safari ClubPerched on the brow of the steep banks of the Mara River, in the Ol-Choro Oiroua Conservation Area, the Mara Safari Club offers a luxurious retreat on the edge of the world's greatest wilderness.

With its grand dining rooms, spacious pool terrace, and varied nightly entertainment, the club is more of a luxury hotel than a tented safari camp - although, upon returning to your tent, you are immediately transported back into the African wilds.

Fairmont Mara Safari Club, Masai MaraThe 50 tents feature four-poster beds, electric lights, and modern en -suite bathrooms, as well as dramatic views over the rushing brown waters below. The club's location outside the national park means that guests can enjoy walking safaris on the game-filled plains, as well as breakfasts and sundowners in the bush.
