Gay Life Croatia Info
In smaller towns and tourist resorts, generally speaking, LGBT people meet in bars, clubs and c afés which are known to be gathering LGBT people and which are gay-friendly but do not specifically count as being gay. There are a lot of such places throughout Croatia and the atmosphere in many of them, not all, is relaxed and open-minded towards homosexuals. If you are spending your vacation in a seaside resort you will have the best chance to meet LGBT people by visiting the gay beaches - and there are a lot of them along the amazing Adriatic coast. However, do not expect them to be too crowdie. In public places LGBT persons tend to act "straight" and therefore hard to "detect" while they're much more relaxed at the gay beaches. It is usually very easy to make contact with people in Croatia and when you get a Croatian friend you'll have a friend for life.
Many say that Croatia is a Mediterranean naturist paradise and judging by the number of nude beaches along the Croatian Adriatic coast this may well be the truth. Naked sunbathers are welcomed since the beginning of the last century when naturists were allowed only on a few especially designated areas. Today, except on official nudist beaches marked as “FKK”, nudity is often tolerated on many other so called "wild beaches".
Many say Croatia is the hottest new European destination. Well, hot, it certainly is, but new? Hardly. Croatia is as old as the hills, drawing Europeans who appreciate its beauty, beaches, history, culture and affordability. In the past few years more and more Americans, Aussies and tourists from other continents are discovering Croatia as well. A place like Croatia offers a lot for everyone. Roman ruins and medieval villages are ubiquitous. The country's long rugged island-dotted coastline covers practically the entire eastern seaboard of the Adriatic, and there's no shortage of ancient towns encircled by picturesque crumbling walls. Vineyards, olive groves and beaches complete a montage of landscapes right out of central casting.
Opatija
Opatija, this elegant tourist destination, lies at the centre of the Riviera with the longest tradition of tourism in Croatia. The very attractive geographic position, enabling its warm seas to be quickly reached from many cities in Central Europe (only about 500 km from Milan, Vienna and Munich), lush green scenery and a pleasant climate were some of the main reasons for its beginning and the quick development of its tourism at the end of the 19th century.
Built mainly at the turn of the 20th century, Opatija has remained in complete harmony with Nature right up until the present day. Well-maintained public gardens, the illuminated 12-km-long coastal promenade known as the "Lungomare", well-kept beaches and fountains provide a stunning backdrop for the villas and hotels that cater comfortably for up to 6,000 guests.
Due to a relatively constant temperature (winter average 7.0 °C, summer average 21.9 °C), high air pressure and constant circulation of air, the climate in Opatija is relaxing and refreshing. The contrasts of sea and mountains, green parks and blue ocean, old buildings and modern comforts, noisy entertainment venues and quiet destinations for excursions all combine to make Opatija and its surroundings a very attractive tourist resort at any time of the year.
Island of Krk
This is the island for you! So close, so accessible, and yet so miraculous, and mysterious. This is a small seventh continent for you, choc-a-bloc with lovely historical tales, marvellous landscapes and likeable, natural people. Among the 1185 Croatian islands, only one of them is the golden one, the Insula Aurea – the island of Krk. Located in the centre of the Kvarner bay, it is considered one of the most attractive tourist destinations. Its mild Mediterranean climate, good geographical position and variety of natural and cultural beauties gave it, even in ancient times, the name "golden island". Its cultural heritage has given it another name – the cradle of Croatian culture, whilst at the beginning of the 20th century it gained the name the "sixth continent". The 45th parallel passes through the island, whilst its longest part is 38 km and its widest 20 km long. Its coast is around 190 km long. The closest mainland is only about a hundred metres away and its neighbouring islands are the islands of Cres, Goli and Rab. A few smaller islands also pertain to it (the largest being Plavnik, which has 17 km of coast, and the smaller Skoljic with just 400 m of coast); it has an unusual and varied relief, climbing from the north-western part to the south-eastern part – from picturesque gentle coves and lagoons, along fertile fields and dense forests with sub-mediterranean vegetation, to the parts of bare limestone and real mountain landscape. On the island of Krk there are three streams and two lakes. On the highest mountain top, Obzovi (570 m), visitors may forget that they are actually on an island. Here some very specific phenomena can be found – such as the flora in Krk which includes around 1400 species of land plants, which are almost half of the total in Croatia. Its unique plant the "Barbašova lazarkinja" is one of the world's rarities and it only grows in the Baska lagoon.
Gay Beaches:
Njivice beach Njivice is a village on the island of Krk.
Gay nude beach is situated next to the autocamping. Walk along the coast, eneter the camping and continue untill the end of it. There you will find a fence with a passage to the nude beach.
First part of the beach is straight and after some 10-15 minutes of walking you will reach the gay area with appropriately situated forest above the beach.
Gay beach is well visited, especially in summer months when except locals from Krk and Rijeka, many tourists come from Zagreb, Slovenia and Italy. It is one of the most beautiful and popular gay beaches in Croatia. In summer months there are about 50 guys sunning and swimming. Malinska Paradise beach Malinska tourist village is situated at the northwest coast bay of island Krk, in spacious basin not far from Njivice, within 15 km from the bridge that connects Krk to the mainland.
Nude gay beach is situated north/west of Malinska, after Haludovo neglected hotel complex.
It is very easy to reach the beach. If you are coming by car, before entering Malinska, turn right toward Haludovo and keep on driving until the end of the road. Right next to the former restaurant, you can park in shade. Walk to the sea and turn right where you will find a well kept pebble path, about 2m wide and about 1,5km long. If you are walking from centre of Malinska, just walk to the north until you reach Haludovo.
The whole path or promenade is under a magnificent shade from trees because on the right side there is a beautiful pine forest and on the left side you can approach the sea. Beaches are basically rocks where one has to look for a suitable place to settle down but there are also nice little pebbly coves. Problem with coves is that they get occupied by sunbathers early in the morning. You can leave your towel also below pine trees, because the sea is only a few meters away. From the rocks, entrance to the sea can be a little difficult.
The largest part of the beach is unofficial nudist beach and often there are mixed clothed and naked people. Nobody really cares if you are naked or not. On the promenade, during summer, there are many people walking, some with clothes and some completely naked. At the end of the promenade path turns into a narrow dirt path and the next 1km or is used by gay men but there are also straight swingers looking for action in dense forest. A nice and dense forest is also used by gay men.
Along the promenade, there are no showers or food&drinks stands, so you need to take everything with you.
Banculuka beach Nude beach near Banculuka nudist camping located at the southeast end of the island near Baska town.
The coast is mostly rocky with several beautiful pebble coves. The beach can be reached by foot from the center of Baska (about 15 minutes walking). The naturist camp Bunculuka is located in the beautiful gulf between two hills, which are characterized by the uncontaminated nature. Camping is situated only 15 minutes of walking from popular summer resort Baska.
The beach in Banculuka is pebbly with beautiful small pebbles. This beach can be very crowded with guests from the camping but also with one-day guests.
More interesting are beaches located after the camping. First comes Jablanova cove, then Mali raj, Mala Vrzenica cove and finally Vela Vrzenica cove. These are all beautiful pebbly nudist beaches. It is difficult to tell which one is the most beautiful one. There are no facilities at any of them so bring everything you need. There are deckchairs and parasols available to rent on Jablanova, Mala and Vela Vrzenica caves.
For gays the most interesting is Vela Vrzenica which attracts some gay men and is the biggest beach. There is also a pine forest where you can hide against heat or take a rest in the shadow.
Gay section is, as usual, at the end of the Vela Vrzenica cave, where pebbles are a bit larger and approach to the water is not pleasant without some sort of plastic footwear.
After Vela Vrzenica there is an area sometimes busy with cruising and if you continue walking you will reach secluded coves of Dubna and Konjska, which are usually visited only by boat owners and are more than one hour of walk away from Banculuka camping.
Nude beach near Konobe camping, Punat Punat lies in the southern part of the island of Krk, in one of the most beautiful and well-protected bays of the Adriatic. As you go out from the Punat's bay, you can find many pebly beaches on which you can always find a quiet place yust for yourself and you can bare it all if you like.
Konobe camping Konobe is a naturist camping located 4km from the town of Punat .

Island of Rab
96 bays, about 200 beaches, large and small, 38 capes and 20 rock promontories are very good indicator of our well-indented coast. Rab coastline is 103.2 km long, but when you add all the coastal lengths of other smaller islands in the Adriatic it comes to the total length is 116.17 km. District Kalifront is very interesting and thanks to the diversity of its beaches, in form and structure of, sandy beaches, rocky beaches, sandy beaches or a mixture of it all. The island of Rab was protected by the gods who placed it in the lee of the Velebit mountain and hill Kamenjak wing. This hill, which could raise doubts with his bare face turned to Highway and the Velebit Channel, is in fact a blessing for the island, because it protects against ice cold and north-easterly wind. Rab is an island of sunshine, and it's not just a phrase, because according to statistics it has 2417 hours of sunshine annually. The sun shines on the island in June, July and August, ten hours a day.
Rab is the southernmost island of the Kvarner Bay, with the majority of Mediterranean vegetation. When you left bare and bleak surroundings of a smaller ferry port Mišnjak, you begin to discover what the gods saved to themselves. The vegetation is lush, and the Mediterranean climate, Rab is covered with evergreen forests, as well as with indigenous trees and holm oak. Around 9000 people live in this magnificent part of the Adriatic ,while in the peak of tourist season that number triples.
Gay Beaches:
Kandarola nude beach The island of Rab is the perfect place for those who love nature and tranquility but also some gay life: on the island there is a vast legal nudist area on the Frkanj peninsula.

The nudist beach is large, with many trees to provide shade, beautiful clean sea. There are also showers in regular intervals, sport facilities, massage...
The beach restaurant has a good menu and moderate prices. Sahara nude beach Sahara nude beach is located on Lopar peninsula (near Lopar village) in northern part of the island. It is one of not so many sandy beaches in Croatia. To get there walk from the entertainment centre San Marino, through the hotel and private houses area and the small forest to reach the lagoon and nudist beach. It takes about 20 minutes of walking to get there from Lopar. If you have a car, you can park it near the San Marino complex. The beach is clearly displayed on all tourist maps of Lopar and there are also signs to the beach in the village itself. Beautiful sand, shallow see and nice rocks on the sides. Island of Losinj
The boundless sea captivates me through the lapping of the waves and the silence in the sand. The sea has been gently rocking me for centuries calling me to its beloved shore. The largest of the islands is the wooded Losinj, with its elevated mount Osorscica.
From here travellers can discover the primeval beauty in the landscape of the small islands unfolding before them: fertile Unije, unique sandy Susak with its distinctive culture, solitary Vele and Male Srakane, flower-studded Ilovik, each of them closely guarding its secrets and beauty.
Waters around here are clean and crystal-clear while the seabed abounds with flora and fauna. The playful dolphins certainly noticed this and here you can learn more about them.
Today, Losinj is a much sought-after tourist destination where you can tune into yourself. Losinj's tourist beginnings are linked to health tourism, as the benefits of climate and vegetation of the island were first discovered by the wise Austro-Hungarian aristocracy. Along with proclaiming Lošinj a health resort, they built numerous villas and summer residences, which have been restored, and today enrich the landscape. Along with them, there are numerous newly built hotels, which are continually being upgraded with new facilities. Some of them already boast four stars, offering Wellness Centre programs and swimming pools with heated sea water, while others are transformed into smaller family hotels and guest houses.

The island and its dwellers still live at the pace inherited from the old times taking from civilisation what they need to make their life better. The inhabitants of the island of Cres build their present and future on tourist trade and for them each guest is a guest with capital G. The island of Cres, by size the first island in the Adriatic, is located in the northern part of the Bay of Kvarner. Its southern part, i.e. the town of Osor, is linked to the island of Lošinj by a trestle bridge. Cres is a hilly island, 66 km long and ranging in width from 2 to 12 km. The island's coastline , 248 km long, is indented; its western and southern part have a plenty of bays and pebbly beaches while the northern and eastern part are characterized with steep and rough rocks.
The highest tops of the island - Gorice (648m) and Sis (638) - offer a unique view of the Bay of Kvarner which will not leave anyone indifferent. The fresh water lake of Vrana, which covers the area of 5. 75 square kilometres , deserves attention as an unusual natural phenomenon.
