Santa Barbara, California

The gentle green foothills of Santa Barbara are decorated with red-tile roofed haciendas, twisted California oaks, a polo field or two, and some cool hideaways where Hollywood´s hottest stars travel for a little respite from big city life. Walk in the footsteps of early Spanish Franciscan missionaries who founded Santa Barbara´s magnificent mission in 1786. Its shaded courtyard and quiet chapel provid a sanctuary for many travelers.

San Francisco, California

While you're in San Francisco, take the time to explore this beautiful city. Walk down Lombard, the crookedest street in the world. Take a trip to San Francisco's famous Chinatown for Dim Sum. Explore the waterfront and stop in to sample chocolate at Ghirardelli Square. Ride one of San Francisco's famous cable cars, and gaze at the beautiful Golden Gate Bridge.

• Enjoy the scenery on a boat ride out to Alcatraz, the famous "escape-proof" prison in the bay.
• Check out Sausalito, a quaint little town where you'll find charming art galleries and arts-and-crafts stores.
• Explore the redwood forest of Muir Woods. Take a leisurely stroll through part of the 550-acre National Monument. Within the woods, there are fabled 800-year-old giant coastal redwood trees that rise 250 feet or more.
• Head down to Monterey Bay and along the coastal road toward famous Cannery Row.
• Take a trip to Carmel, home of artists and craftspeople. Stroll through the delightful village, then visit the Carmel Mission, one of the most popular and historic of the 21 missions built in California from 1769 through 1823.

Astoria, Oregon

Join the ranks of distinguished visitors, starting with Captain John Gray in 1792 and Lewis and Clark's Corps of Discovery in 1805. Astoria is a picturesque city that offers an interesting slice of American history. It's full of the pleasures of small-town life, such as beautiful Victorian homes, the 4.1-mile-long Astoria Bridge and the many fishing trips that offer the thrill of landing your own salmon, sturgeon or crab.

Explore the oldest American settlement west of the Rockies. Discover Astoria's famous Union Town, Doughboy Monument, beautiful Victorian homes and churches. View the Astoria Column, displaying scenes commemorating important events in the area's history.

• Tour Fort Clatsop, a replica of the fort depicted in William Clark's journal.
• Visit the Maritime Museum, which houses some of the region's prized artifacts.
• Visit Mount St. Helens and see the crater, lava dome and blast zone of this infamous volcano.
• Go for a bike ride at Fort Stevens. You'll see Battery Russell, dating back to the early 20th century, with its panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean; Cape Disappointment Light House and the Washington State shoreline. While you're there, look for the wreck of the Peter Iredale, an English ship that ran aground in 1906.

Seattle, Washington

Seattle is often characterized by its laid-back attitude and rainy climate, but this thriving metropolis also offers one-of-a-kind architecture, the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges, and a unique urban sophistication.

Pacific Science Center began as the United States Science Pavilion during the 1962 Seattle World's Fair. Millions came to explore the wonders of science during the World's Fair and upon closing ceremonies, the Science Pavilion was given new life as the private not-for-profit Pacific Science Center, becoming the first U.S. museum founded as a science and technology center.

• Woodland Park Zoo is a conservation and education institution demonstrating the value, beauty and interdependence of all living things.
• See, touch and explore our amazing underwater world at the Seattle Aquarium. Get face-to-fin with marine life and discover the natural wonders of the Puget Sound.
• The Space Needle is located at Seattle Center.

Vancouver, British Columbia

From the harbor entrance, you can see the Lion's Gate, made up of twin mountain peaks closely resembling crouching lions. Visitors enjoy discovering this cosmopolitan city, from the shops of Robson Street to historic Gastown.

Vancouver often feels like a mini-United Nations, and nowhere is that more true than Robson Street, a popular shopping and dining area. Find a bench and watch the world go by. You'll be amazed at all the countries you see represented.
