Wedged between the high wall of the Himalaya and the steamy jungles of the Indian plains, Nepal is a land of snow peaks and Sherpas, yaks and yetis, monasteries and mantras. The cultural richness owes something to the shaping force of the landscape itself, and something else to the fact that it was never colonized.
This trip is extension to our main Magical India Gay Tour
Nepal's cultural landscape is every bit as diverse as its physical one. Its peoples belong to a host of distinctive ethnic groups, and speak a host of languages. They live in everything from dense, ancient cities erupting with pagoda-roofed Hindu temples to villages perched on dizzying sweeps of rice-farming terraces and dusty highland settlements clustered around tiny monasteries. Religious practices range from Indian-style Hinduism to Tibetan Buddhism and from nature-worship to shamanism – the indigenous Newars, meanwhile, blend all these traditions with their own, intense tantric practices.

Day 2 - Friday, March 6, 2015
After breakfast, we spend time today exploring the sights of Kathmandu valley.
It is easy to be overwhelmed by the seemingly uncountable monuments in Kathmandu Durbar square. The red monkey god, the house of the living goddess, Taleju temple and the great bell & drum which was beaten to announce the royal decree are just a few examples of the sights around the square. The once famous freak street surrounds the square. Our excursion continues on to Swoyambhuanth Stupa, popularly known as the monkey temple, one of the most identifiable symbols of Nepal with the painted eyes of Buddha watching all who ascend the steps.
In the afternoon, we travel to Patan, the old Newar city. Noted for its wonderful carvings, craftsmen and metal workers, it is planned on a circular format with Buddhist stupas at each of the four points of the compass. The Patan Durban Square has an enchanting combination of palace buildings, artistic courtyards and graceful pagoda-style temples. Tonight, we gather for a Nepali cultural performance and dinner at a specialty restaurant.

Day 3 - Saturday, March 7, 2015
We set off in the morning to visit Pashupatinath temple and Bouddhnath. The temple of Pashupatinath is one of the most important Hindu pilgrimage sites in the world. Until recently Nepal was officially a Hindu Kingdom, and Pashupatinath was considered the main protector deity of Nepal. Though non-Hindus are not allowed inside the temple, one can clearly see the temple and the activities from the eastern bank of the Bagmati River. We continue to Bouddhnath – the 5th century Buddhist stupa with four pairs of eyes of Buddha in four cardinal directions keeping an eternal watch over the people and their doings.
In the afternoon visit the medieval city of Bhaktapur. It houses some of the best examples of Nepalese craftsmanship in wood and stone such as the Palace of 55 windows, the five-storied temple of Nytapole, the Dattatreya temple among many others. Considered a living museum one can witness ancient traditions carried out even today in Potters square where the local potters use age-old techniques to make clay utensils.
