Arrive in Casablanca, Morocco / Casablanca Tour
We begin today with a visit to the Hassan II Mosque, dramatically perched on the Atlantic Ocean. Completed by the late King Hassan II in 1993, this astounding edifice is larger than Saint Peter's in Rome and can hold 25,000 worshippers inside, and 80,000 outside.

This evening Hermes Tours will host a welcome dinner so we can get better acquainted with each other.

Our journey today takes us to Rabat, where we will tour the ancient necropolis of Chellah, a thriving city for nearly 1,000 years, whose ruins date from the Roman through the Islamic periods.

Today our tour takes us to the Royal Palace and Mechouar, Mohammed V's mausoleum and the Udaya Kasbah.

Fez
We'll witness Fes' medieval wonders firsthand today on our tour. Its narrow, cobbled streets are brimming with ancient mosques, towering green-glazed minarets and ancient fondouks, ancient hostels where spice traders once laid their heads. During our walk, we mingle among veiled women, meandering donkeys laden with wares, and proud artisans carrying on ancient traditions.

Highlights of our visit include the Sahrij Medersa, the Mellah (Jewish Quarter), Attarine Souk, the Karouiyne Mosque, and the city's countless souks and tanneries.

Fez / Mergouga
Following our breakfast we drive through the scenic cedar forests of the Middle Atlas Mountains. Along the way, we will find a weekly souk in Azrou.

Continue south along the Ziz River until it finally dies out in the Sahara desert as the last paved road ends at the edge of the oasis town of Erfoud, we leave the world behind you as we continue on to our desert oasis hotel.

This afternoon we go back in time with our camel desert safari.

Rise early this morning for a 4x4 adventure in the Sahara desert.

After the sun has risen, we return to our hotel for breakfast and then continue our drive to Ouarzazate.

Upon our arrival we visit the 17th century Kasbah Taourirt which served as the home of the Pacha Glaoui.

Then visit the Atlas Studios, Morocco's most important and famous movie studios.

Later, we'll compare two awe-inspiring palaces – the Bahia and El Badi.

Following breakfast enjoy a full day excursion to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Essaouira. A former Portuguese colony on the Atlantic Ocean that has become something of an artists' colony, the enchanting streets of this fortified town were the setting for Orson Welles' 1952 Othello.

Return to Marrakech this evening.

Morocco gay TourEU, Canadian and American passport holders are not required to have visas to enter Morocco for tourism purposes. Your passport should be valid for a minimum of 6 months after the end of the tour.

 

Shots and Immunizations:
There are no shots that are required for travel to Morocco but Hermes Tours does recommend that your tetanus booster be up to date.

 

Activity Level:
Morocco gay travel The activity level of this tour is classified as "Moderate". The best way to see the cities is to walk our way through the narrow paths and streets which in many cases will be uneven. You will be walking a few hours each day as we explore our destination. We also have a couple days with long travel on our mini bus. The longest drive is from Fez - Merzouga which is about 6 hours. The second is from Merzouga to Ouazazate which is about 5 hours. We will make frequent stops.

 

Currency and Money Issues:
Morocco gay travelIt is very easy to withdraw money from ATMs located throughout the country as well as to use your Visa or MasterCard. The American Express card is less widely accepted. Travelers checks are also accepted however can carry a heavy commission fee. We recommend to travelers to bring only a small amount of cash and/or travelers checks and to rather use their ATM and credit cards while traveling.
