This year to this, one week tour, on Lake Ledro, we have added guided walks. The Alps of Trentino, head for several miles away from Selva towards the world famous Dolomites. The absence of roads and development makes it particularly peaceful and attractive day.
 Departing on April 28th, we explore Lake Ledro (& Garda) with the original city of lovers, Verona. The setting for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Verona is a very cosmopolitan city; this tour is a must for anyone with a love for good food and music, but not only, find out more right here.
You will stay at the wonderful Hotel Mezzolago situated on the shores of Lake Ledro, nestled in the mountains of Northern Italy; and in an Italian village of 150 inhabitants, where it's never too hot; the rooms offer some spectacular views. A morning dip in the lake is highly recommended! The service and quality of food at this three star three generations family run hotel are excellent, and all meals are delicious with homemade dishes & quarter litre of local wine per person inclusive.  The Mezzolago provides the perfect setting to relax and unwind after the excitement of the opera or an exciting night out in the nearby city of Riva del Garda.
There will also be plenty of opportunities to enjoy the wonderful local surroundings. Lake Ledro is a stunning oasis in the mountains of north-eastern Italy. This is one of the cleanest and most picturesque lakes of Trentino, its crystal turquoise water surrounded by the green scenery of meadows and woods. The lakeside beaches are to die for, unspoilt genuine clear water.
You will feel compelled to splash into the shallow warm waters of this breathtaking feature, which is at the heart of local Italians only. There is an abundance of water sports to enjoy, including kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing, yachting, canoeing and guided great walks. There is a stimulating variety of activities for all. Lake Ledro lies in Trentino a northern region of Italy, to the west of Lake Garda. The hotel is in an Alpine village on the northern shore of the lake. The lake and valley (Lago di Ledro and Valle di Ledro) are surrounded by magnificent forested alpine peaks. Blessed with a location on the sunny side of the Alps the lake enjoys many sun filled days. The plants here are very Mediterranean.  An ideal location for a few days' rest, not far from Verona, Mantua or Milan approx 1 hour and a half away. Lake Garda is located 8 miles away from Lake Ledro, whilst one hour and a half away is Verona, famous beautiful UNESCO World Heritage city with Breath-taking basilicas, landscaped gardens and some of within her fortified medieval walls, and its Arena and open-air opera and home to Romeo & Juliet balcony.
The picturesque alpine lake Lago di Ledro is situated on 655 m above sea level in the homonymous valley, between Lake Garda and Lake Idro. The total surface of the lake is 2.2 sqm, whereas the maximum depth is 47 metres. Lake Ledro was created by a blocking of a moraine from the ancient Garda glacier. Thanks to its splendid greed colour and the crystalline water which reflects the surrounding mountains, this lake is considered to be one of the most beautiful lakes in Trentino. Moreover the lake is surrounded by dense forests in a fairytale-like landscape.
The price of the holiday starts from £799.00 in mountain-view rooms, which includes flights from London half-board accommodation (lunch or dinner, wine and water included), tours and the services of our representatives and guides. Nothing has been left out, nor should you feel obliged to join in for all excursions it's important to know this is your holiday and although organized you can do things in your own stride.

Prices are based on exchange rate of 1.10 Pound to the Euro. NB: Should this change considerably we will pass this on to you. We advise you to book early to save money and avoid disappointment. Transfers can be arranged for other airports, should you want to fly a different route, supplements will be advised.

 The Palazzo Ducale di Mantova ("Ducal Palace") is a group of buildings in Mantua, Lombardy, northern Italy, built between the 14th and the 17th century mainly by the noble family of Gonzaga as their royal residence in the capital of their Duchy. The buildings are connected by corridors and galleries and are enriched by inner courts and wide gardens. The complex includes some 500 rooms and occupies an area of c. 34,000 mē. Although most famous for Mantegna's frescos in the Camera degli Sposi (Wedding Room), they have many other very significant architectural and painted elements.
The Gonzaga family lived in the palace from 1328 to 1707, when the dynasty died out. Subsequently, the buildings saw a sharp decline, which was halted in the 20th century with a continuing process of restoration and the designation of the area as museum.  In 1998, a hidden room was discovered by Palace scholars, led by musicologist Paula Bezzutti. The room is thought to have been used for performances of Monteverdi's music in the late 16th century
The treasures that once filled Isabella's rooms have been sent off to museums, but there's still a tantalizing magic here. Her studiolo's deep blue walls, stars, and gilded woodwork create the ambience of an evening sky in paradise. In the grotta, polished cabinets of wood inlays form pictures of idyllic cities and palaces. Alabaster carvings of mythological figures grace the moldings. Right out the door is her secret garden, a square patch of trimmed shrubs and pots of laurel. I'd love to move in.
 Verona, in the Veneto region of north-east Italy, is one of Italy's loveliest towns, famous for its summer opera season. This has been a thriving and successful town for most of its history, and today smart shops and cafes fill the attractive medieval lanes of the historic centre. Verona is a popular day-trip from Lake Garda, and an appealing destination for weekend breaks or longer stays. There's a lot to see here, from Roman ruins to the so-called 'Juliet's balcony', and the town is also well-connected for exploring the surrounding area, including destinations like Lake Garda, Vicenza, Padua and Venice.
Verona was an important Roman town and is rich in archaeological sites, the grandest of which is the Roman Arena, where operas are now performed in the summer. It's easy to spend a long time simply exploring the narrow streets lined with handsome palazzi that make up the historic centre. The town's museums and churches contain fine works of art, while the ruined Roman theatre over the river has excellent views from the terraces where the ancients watched plays.
 Verona's historic centre lies within the town walls in a tight curve of the Adige river. Entering town past the Porta Nuova gateway near the railway station, you head along wide car-filled Corso Porta Nuova before passing through the attractive fourteenth-century arches of the Portoni della Bra and entering the historic part of town. Immediately inside the town wall is Piazza Bra, a large open space dominated by the imposing Roman Arena. Verona's tourist information office is nearby, set in the old town wall to the right. Via Mazzini, an elegant pedestrian street paved with shiny Verona marble, heads straight through the heart of town to Piazza Erbe, Verona's most attractive square. It's a good idea to have a map or guidebook at this point, and to dive into the pretty historic lanes uncovering Verona's charms.
 Shakespeare is extremely unlikely ever to have set foot in Verona. However, his source for the plot of Romeo and Juliet was derived at several removes from an Italian story set in the town, featuring two feuding families with names similar to those of historical Veronese dynasties. So there is a connection, but whether you wish to feel that the real town of Verona has any direct link to Shakespeare's work is up to you. It doesn't stop the town from marketing Romeo and Juliet postcards, mugs, tea-towels, sliding pens and more. There is a busy Shakespearian tourist trail, and (mind-bogglingly) you can post a letter to fictional dead character Juliet at 'Juliet's tomb', or email her at 'Juliet's balcony'. The city organises various 'romantic' initiatives, including events around Valentine's Day.

For the ancient Romans, the area was a luxury summer retreat. The palatial hotels, the exotically palm tree-lined esplanades, and slender cypress and lemon groves have long bestowed upon this enchanting place a strong Mediterranean feel.

Mantua and Palazzo Ducale

• Tour of: "Mantua and Palazzo Ducale" the 14th century residence of the Gonzaga's family who lived here from 1328 al 1707 boasts four hundred rooms, court yards and gardens, a magnificent palace. (Lunch is payable extra).
The city of Mantua was founded, probably around 2000 BC, on the banks of the Mincio, on a sort of island which provided natural protection. In the 6th century BC it was an Etruscan village which, in Etruscan tradition, was re-founded by Ocno.
