Prepare to get wild. South America cruises explore a continent rich in ancient ruins, cosmopolitan cities, and all types of terrain, from the towering Andes to lush rainforests and Inca ruins.
Marvel at the engineering wonders of the Panama Canal. Discover quaint colonial towns lining the golden coasts of Peru and Ecuador, or soar through the treetops of Panama’s Soberanía National Park on an aerial tram.
Check off your UNESCO World Heritage list while visiting Peru on a South America cruise with Holland America Line. You can explore the historic center of Lima from Callao, gateway to overland adventures in Cusco, Machu Picchu, and the Galapagos Islands. Access the ancient Chan Chan citadel from Salaverry, or fly over the mysterious Nazca Lines during a day in General San Martin — although you may wish to visit the Americas’ oldest working distillery to taste Peru’s famous spirit, Pisco.
Cross the world’s most famous shortcut off your bucket list your way. Cruise through the jaw-dropping Panama Canal locks cocooned in comfort on a perfectly sized ship while your Cruise & Travel Director provides fascinating insights. Unique excursions await everyone on our Panama Canal cruise, from breezy aerial trams through the forest canopy to astounding wildlife encounters and guided city walks.
In the Chilean capital, grand colonial buildings stand proudly among glass skyscrapers and elegant parks. In the distance, the snow-dusted Andes provide a dramatic backdrop to it all. When you berth in San Antonio, you’re also only around 40 miles from Valparaiso. The port has won plenty of admirers for its rolling hills, where steep funiculars climb among the charming jumble of multi-coloured houses, and its historic quarter has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2003.
To the conquistadores, this was the ‘City of Kings’ and its colonial majesty still dominates the heart of Peru’s capital. Dramatic cliffs, golden beaches and varied cuisine are among its other riches. An undoubted highlight of Lima is the Plaza Mayor in its centre. It’s filled with grand colonial buildings, some of which date from the 16th century, such as The Government Palace, which occupies almost the whole north side of the square. Other impressive landmarks include the Archbishop’s Palace and the twin-towered baroque cathedral.
Manta sits almost directly on the equator, roughly halfway up Ecuador’s Pacific shoreline. The area was home to at least seven different civilisations before the Spanish conquered the region in 1534. While the Panama hat is known around the world, it is less common knowledge that they actually come from Ecuador. Montecristi is just a short hop inland from Manta, and it provides a fascinating insight into their manufacture.
For those in search of sun, sea, sand and snorkelling, Grand Cayman is a perfect find. Stretch out on soft, white beaches, or literally immerse yourself in a discovery of varied tropical marine life. Grand Cayman’s most popular tourist attraction is Stingray City. This sandbar, a few minutes off the shore by boat, is an opportunity to pet and interact with hundreds of placid stingrays in waist-deep water. The experience can be nerve-wracking at first but this unique marine-life experience is a Grand Cayman cruise staple.

Day 1- San Antonio (Santiago), Chile
This large, modern port serves Chile’s capital, Santiago, a city with Spanish colonial charm and a vivacious spirit. North of San Antonio lie the picturesque old port and university town of Valparaíso and the colorful seaside resort of Viña del Mar.
The fun begins the moment you board the Oosterdam - which has been designed from bow to stern for your fun and enjoyment. As we sail into the Pacific, we’ll gather for a hosted Daddy Cruises® Welcome Aboard Party. Here, you’ll meet your fellow cruisers and start making new friends right away.
Day 2 - Coquimbo (La Serena), Chile The port of Coquimbo is the gateway to La Serena, founded in 1544. There’s a little bit of something for everyone here. La Serena's central Plaza de Armas is home to superb colonial buildings and a 19th-century cathedral. La Recova - the artisan's marketplace - features copper and silver jewelry, glass works and ceramics. The whole region was home to the pre-Columbian Diaguita and El Molle cultures, noted for their fine ceramics and jewelry. The nearby Elqui Valley is an agricultural center famed for grapes, papaya and cherimoya. Wine tasing, anyone?
Days 3 & 4 - Fun Days at Sea!
Our first of several full days at sea. Relax, unwind and settle into vacation mode. Lounge on your private balcony or near one of the pools, or maybe even find a quiet nook to settle in with a book. Want to be more active on your day at sea? Play bingo, work out at the gym, watch a movie, dance all night, attend a cooking seminar, soak in a hot tub, watch a sunset (or a sunrise), play trivia games, sing along at the piano bar, do some wine tasting, check your email or surf the internet, grab a snack, watch live entertainment, get lucky in the casino, indulge in a spa treatment, catch the game in the sports bar, and on and on…
Day 5 - General San Martin (Pisco), Peru
While most tourists envision a lush Peru—with mountaintop citadels shrouded in jungle and mist—the Pisco region is a stunningly stark junction of lunar landscape and teeming sea—all earth tones and aquas. For a place whose beauty is so austere, however, the area is shockingly fertile, both agriculturally (the beloved national brandy of the same name hails from here) and culturally (civilizations from the Paracas to the Incas have left a mark—or many—here). But your visit won't be all about signature cocktails and ancient ruins: The local waters are home to such a mind-blowing menagerie, they're often called the Galápagos of Peru or simply Little Galápagos.
Days 6 & 7 - Lima (Callao), Peru
Peru's bone-dry capital, Lima is a booming energetic metropolis built on ancient foundations millennia in the making. At first she is no looker, but scratch that parched surface below the high-rise offices and dust-settled dwellings and Lima's charms begin to shine: Strikingly preserved pre-Columbian ruins sit defiantly among modern skyscrapers, a cultural potpourri of world-class museums, sun-toasted beaches beautifully illuminated by nightly sunsets and one of the most exciting and dynamic culinary landscapes in the world. Good thing we have an overnight here–the gay nightlife is not to be missed!
Day 8 - Salaverry (Trujillo), Peru
The real treats here are the ruins of the ancient Moche people, before they fell to the Incas. Chan Chan is a vast adobe complex of citadels, including the partially restored Tschudi Palace. It also encompasses temples, plazas and cemeteries. The Museo de Sitio Chan Chan displays stone artifacts, ceramics and history exhibits. Nearby are Huacas de Sol and Huacas de Luna–temples of the sun and moon–also built by the Moche. The wall art, in particular, is something to behold.
Day 9 - Fun Day at Sea! After several days in Peru, you’ll be ready for some down time at sea. Relax and enjoy. Lounge on your private balcony or near one of the pools, or maybe even find a quiet nook to settle in with a book. Want to be more active on your day at sea? Play bingo, work out at the gym, watch a movie, dance all night, attend a cooking seminar, soak in a hot tub, watch a sunset (or a sunrise), play trivia games, sing along at the piano bar, do some wine tasting, check your email or surf the internet, grab a snack, watch live entertainment, get lucky in the casino, indulge in a spa treatment, catch the game in the sports bar, and on and on.
Day 10 - Manta, Ecuador The breezy, seaside city of Manta is the second largest port in Ecuador and possesses one of the world's most varied terrains. A huge tuna statue greets you on its shores, a whimsical nod to the tuna capital of the world. Fresh seafood is always on the menu, and a stroll along the promenade lets you take in the beach scene. The bustling center of town, an easy walk from port, displays a lively marketplace selling the misnamed Panama hats (yes, they’re actually from Ecuador!), silver jewelry and apparel. There is lush green parkland; the nearby colonial town of Montecristi, the center of the Panama hat industry; and the Pacoche Wildlife Refuge, home to indigenous flora and fauna and audacious howler monkeys. Explore the rich culture, heritage and people of Manta during scenic adventures that take in the Archaeological Museum.
Day 11 - Fun Day at Sea! Another fine day to enjoy the ship, enjoy the sun, and enjoy life!
Day 12 - Fuerte Amador (Panama City), Panama Fuerte Amador, situated at the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal, is a man-made peninsula extending out into the Pacific Ocean. The one-mile causeway was created by connecting four small islands with rocks excavated from the Panama Canal. There are several shops, restaurants, and other specialty stores centered around a large marina that serves as a tender dock. The causeway also affords a panoramic view of Panama City's impressive skyline and serves as the home for the Smithsonian Institute of Tropical Research. We overnight here so you have time to enjoy stuff during the day, and then experience the nightlife in Central America’s most gay-friendly capital.
Day 13 - Cruising Panama Canal, Panama The highlight of the voyage–we will travel from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean, traversing several locks in one of the world’s great marvels. The construction of the Panama Canal is one of those epic tales from the past, an old-school feat of engineering, ambition and courage.
Day 14 - Fun Days at Sea! Another fine day to enjoy the ship, enjoy the sun, and enjoy life!
Day 15 - Georgetown, Cayman Islands George Town, the vibrant heart of the Cayman Islands, offers more than just clear waters and balmy breezes. A culinary hotspot, the city boasts a variety of gourmet restaurants influenced by the 135 nationalities residing on the island. Take a stroll on the iconic Seven Mile Beach, dive into stunning coral reefs, or relax at Rum Point. With Holland America, explore the best of the Cayman Islands' cuisine and natural beauty.
Day 16 - Fun Day at Sea! Your last full day at sea!
Day 17 - Fort Lauderdale, Florida Welcome to the USA—enriched and inspired, and full of memories that will last a lifetime! Safe travels home, or enjoy a few days in South Florida before your return! Fort Lauderdale, also known as the Venice of America, invites visitors to explore its intricate canal system on a paddlewheeler or water taxi. Discover the city’s vibrant nautical lifestyle, upscale Las Olas Boulevard, and the cultural delights of the Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District.
