Stockholm is built on 14 islands at the edge of the Baltic Sea. Nearly everywhere you look there is a view of the water. Sweden’s second largest city, Gothenburg, is like a miniature Amsterdam with its Dutch-style canals and leafy boulevards. Copenhagen evokes a fairy-tale atmosphere with its green towered skyline, large plazas, statues, fountains, gardens, tree-lined walkways, open-air markets, flower vendors on street corners, museums, galleries, and many sidewalk cafes. Its gay scene is legendary, and you won’t find a better place to celebrate Gay Pride!

Trip Notes

Entry Requirements
No visa is required of citizens of the United States, Canada or European Union countries. All you need is a valid passport, and you’re ready to go!

Immunizations & Health
No immunizations are currently required for travel to Sweden or Denmark, but it is wise to update your inoculations. Is your tetanus booster current?

Exit Requirements
Any separate departure tax should be included in the cost of your airline ticket.

Making Travel Arrangements to Sweden & Denmark
On this tour, international airfare is NOT included. You will need to get your international air to Stockholm, Sweden (code ARN), and return from Copenhagen, Denmark (code CPH).
Please plan to arrive in Stockholm by 4:00 pm on Saturday, August 15, 2020.
Departure from Copenhagen can be scheduled for any convenient flight on Sunday, August 23, 2020.

What to Bring
In August, the northern reaches of Sweden and Denmark will remain relatively cool, with daily temperatures ranging from highs in the upper 60s to evening lows in the mid-to-low 50s. You won’t need a suit jacket or tie, as the tour is informal and dinner attire will be casual, but you will want nice casual outfits for going out and dinners. Try to pack light and bring only one piece of luggage plus your carry-on. Create mix and match outfits, and think about layering! Pack any medications you require in a carry-on bag and leave expensive jewelry at home.

Money Matters
Sweden’s currency is the Swedish krona (SEK). Denmark’s currency is the krone (DKK). The two countries visited on this tour use a variation on the krone or krona, but they are all different currencies so you will need to withdraw cash from an ATM in each country. Credit cards are accepted in each country and ATMs are widely available. Scandinavian countries are expensive, so budget about $45 a day for personal expenses and non-included meals. We will make a collective tip to our guides and drivers throughout the tour as appropriate.
