Danube gay cruise - Topola, SerbiaToday’s morning tour leaves Belgrade by coach to Topola, the site of the initial national uprising against the Turkish Domination in 1804. Karadjordje, the leader of the revolt, built a small fortress with a church at this location.

From Topola you will drive to the nearby town of Oplenac, which stands in a rich agricultural area covered by poplar, maple and oak trees. Here you will visit the Royal Mausoleum of the Serbian dynasty and the inside of the magnificent St. George’s Church, which is made of white marble and decorated with beautiful mosaics. The mausoleum contains about 20 tombs of members of the Serbian and former Yugoslavian royal families.

Danube gay cruise - Mohacs, HungaryLocated in southern Hungary, on the Croatian border, we arrive at the beautiful town of Mohács. From here, we invite you for a historical journey to see how paprika became the “red gold” of the Kalocsa Region. A visit to the “Paprika House” will give you the opportunity to taste cakes filled and baked with paprika, and other products made from paprika. Then you will walk through the 19th-century home of a local upper-class farmer family. You will be able to enjoy a short folk dance performance and local ladies, dressed in their embroidered costumes, will demonstrate old crafts, such as embroidery or painting eggs.

Thereafter, we will take you to the Hungarian Puszta to enjoy the scenery of the endless plain, where the sky stretches endlessly into the horizon, giving the impression of unlimited freedom. Enjoy the hospitality of the hostesses and riders wearing traditional costumes, quench your thirst with cool red or white wine or apple juice, taste the breakfast of Hungarian peasants and admire the galloping of the beautiful Hungarian half-blood horses. Also known as Little Switzerland Romanian thanks to the beauty of its landscapes, and became the favorite destination of King Charles I who established here his summer residence, Peles Palace. Opened Oct. 7, 1883, the elegant Peles Castle was built in German Renaissance style, and has 160 rooms, a large VIP lounge upholstered in fine marquetry, a hall of mirrors, another Florentine which impresses with Murano chandeliers, and another in Moorish design. After, we visit Brasov city, founded in 1211 by the Teuton Knights, which will delight you with its medieval architecture and its beautiful scenery. How can I communicate with home while in Europe?
Internet service is available at all land accommodations and on board this river boat. Due to the remoteness of the Danube, internet service on board may have some limited availability, and cell services may also be somewhat unreliable. However, the ship does have a satellite phone on board. You should check with your cell provider to determine if you have coverage in Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, and Hungary, or if you can add coverage for the duration of the trip. Cell service will not be available in all areas. Contact information for the ship will be provided in your final travel documents.

What is the local and on board currency?
The official currency of Romania is the Romanian Leu. Since you will have two days to explore Bucharest it may be useful to obtain a small amount of local currency for incidental purchases, however most large shops and restaurants will accept credit cards. During the cruise, the Bulgarian lev is the official currency of Bulgaria, the official currency of Serbia is the Serbian dinar and the Hungarian Forint is the official currency for Hungary. Some vendors accept Euros and US dollars but may return change in the local currency. It may be useful to have small amounts of local currency while touring, however most large shops and restaurants will accept credit cards.

The official currency on board is the Euro. All charges for services and products on board will be placed on the guest’s shipboard account to be settled at the end of the voyage. MasterCard, Visa and Euros are also accepted for the settlement of guest accounts.

What are the passport or visa requirements?
Citizens of the US and Canada are required to have a valid passport, which expires at least 6 months after their last day in European Union. Visas are not required for citizens of these countries. Citizens of all other countries should check with the European Union consulate in their home country to verify entry requirements.

What if I have dietary requirements?
We will make every effort to accommodate special dietary requests. Please inform our office at least 45 days prior to departure of these requests.

 

How do I power and charge my devices?
The electrical current on land and on board is 220V. For those items that are dual voltage, suites on board the Amadeus Queen are outfitted with a multi-plug configuration feature. Guests should be sure to bring the appropriate converter for devices that are not dual voltage. For the land portions of the trip you should pack a Type F European two-prong plug adapter.

Not at all, depending on the trip, anywhere between 15 to 40% of the group will be solo travelers!

What should I expect on the included shore excursions?
All shore excursions during your travel program are led by expert English speaking local guides. Excursions are designed for guests of most activity levels. Walking excursions can exceed 3 miles (5km) of walking with multiple flights of stairs included. If you need accommodations based on your abilities, contact Brand g before booking this travel program.

 

What to wear?
We recommend comfortable casual clothes and good walking shoes for touring. Jeans, shorts and t-shirts are perfectly fine for during the day, while at night we recommend country club casual. We also suggest you pack workout clothes, swimwear, light jacket or sweater and a light rain jacket or umbrella. Jackets and ties are not required.

Will there be smoking areas?
The comfort and safety of our guests is our first priority. Smoking is not permitted in the suites or enclosed, public areas on board. There is a designated smoking area on the Sun Deck. Land properties will have designated smoking areas.

 

What weather can I expect from this trip?
During September, Eastern Europe is starting the Autumn season. The days can range from the high 70s during the day to the low 50s in the evenings. On the Danube, the river can make it feel a little cooler, so don’t forget a shawl or light jacket.

This package includes an arrival transfer from the Bucharest Airport (OTP) to the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bucharest and a departure transfer from the ship.
