North Pole Expedition Luxury All-Gay Cruise

12 nights from/to Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen (Norway)

August 5 – 17, 2028
Ponant Cruises Le Commandant Charcot

North Pole Gay Cruise 2028Some trips are fun. Some are beautiful. And then there are the rare few that become part of who you are. This is one of those journeys. For those who crave the extraordinary, who want more than a vacation, and who dream of experiencing something truly legendary, this North Pole Expedition is your chance to claim a place among the very few! From August 5-17, 2028, we’ll sail roundtrip from Longyearbyen, Norway aboard PONANT’s incomparable Le Commandant Charcot for a 12-night journey to the Geographic North Pole, the very top of the world. This isn’t simply another cruise and it's not just another bucket-list destination.

It’s a bold, beautiful, history-making journey to one of the rarest places on Earth, a destination so remote and so extreme that only 0.0006% of humanity has ever reached it. In all of human history, that’s not even enough people to fill the Roman Colosseum. And we’re doing it on the one ship on Earth purpose-built to make this moment feel every bit as epic as it should.

An Unmached Value For Our Most Exciting Adventure Yet

VACAYA’s 2028 North Pole Expedition isn’t simply luxurious. It’s logistically extraordinary. From the moment you step aboard, you’ll be supported by 235 crew members, 16 expedition Zodiacs, an ice pilot, and an expert expedition team, all working together to guide you safely and seamlessly through one of the most remote environments on Earth. Add in included polar gear, premium hospitality, and the unmistakable VACAYA Touch, and the value becomes crystal clear: this is one of the rarest journeys on the planet, delivered with remarkable comfort, confidence, and care.

Of course, value in a setting like this doesn’t mean inexpensive. It means knowing your investment delivers something truly exceptional: a once-in-a-lifetime expedition, executed at the highest possible level, and offered at the strongest possible price for an experience this exclusive, this complex, and this unforgettable. And while we fully recognize this is a significant investment, VACAYA’s pricing is 25% lower than PONANT’s standard pricing, making this extraordinary adventure not only historic, but remarkably compelling in terms of value.

Polar expedition activities

Expedition Activities

This isn’t a sit-back-and-watch expedition. Depending on weather, wildlife, and ice conditions, you may have opportunities to kayak among ice floes, enjoy guided shore hikes, strap on snowshoes like the great polar explorers of old, or take the unforgettable plunge into icy polar waters. Each activity is led by licensed experts and shaped by the realities of the Arctic itself, making every experience feel earned, authentic, and exhilarating. Because of the nature of expedition travel, all guests must be able to walk unassisted, maintain good balance and mobility, and be in sufficient physical condition to board Zodiacs, navigate uneven terrain, and participate safely without requiring personal assistance.

Arctic gay expedition ship

THE ONLY PASSENGER SHIP IN THE WORLD WITH A PC2 HULL
Le Commandant Charcot is the only passenger ship in the world with a PC2 polar-class hull, giving her the ability to navigate multiyear ice often 6 to 13 feet thick – capability that ordinary expedition ships simply don’t have.

Arctic Gay cruise expedition team

AN EXTRAORDINARY EXPEDITION TEAM
Charcot sails with 20 nature guides, specially trained officers, an ice pilot, and Photo Ambassadors that’ll help you capture the Arctic at its most breathtaking. That’s not just luxury. That’s deep expedition support.

Arctic polar plunge

TAKE A POLAR PLUNGE!
Leaning over the edge of the icebreaking Le Commandant Charcot, you watch the steel hull gently nudge aside drifting Arctic ice as crew members secure your line and the surreal stillness of the North Pole stretches endlessly around you. Then, with a breath that feels equal parts courage and madness, you plunge into the inky, near-freezing polar waters.

Geographic North Pole

REACHING THE UNREACHABLE
This is the Geographic North Pole, the ultimate prize for modern explorers because it’s completely inaccessible by traditional ships. There’s only ONE cruise ship on Earth that can do it and she’s ALL OURS!

Arctic expedition kayaking

TRUE POLAR IMMERSION
Depending on weather and ice conditions, you may kayak among ice floes, enjoy guided hikes, try snowshoeing, and even take part in a thrilling polar plunge. As you’re now realizing, this isn’t sightseeing from afar. It’s active immersion in one of the planet’s least-visited environments.

Le Commandant Charcot interior

DESIGNED TO LET THE OUTSIDE IN
World-renowned designers Jean-Philippe Nuel and Jean-Michel Wilmotte conceived Charcot’s public spaces as a warm, elegant cocoon open to the polar world outside – from the Blue Lagoon and indoor pool to the Snow Room, Detox Bar, Cigar Lounge, and panoramic observation spaces.

The One and Only - Luxury Ponant's Le Commandant Charcot

There are expedition ships. There are luxury ships. And then there’s Le Commandant Charcot.

Named for Jean-Baptiste Charcot, the French explorer and oceanographer who carried out extensive charting in the Antarctic Peninsula region, this is the most extraordinary expedition vessel VACAYA has ever chartered, and arguably the most extraordinary expedition vessel ever built for luxury travelers.

Le Commandant Charcot Onboard Blue Lagoon

Charcot is the world’s only luxury icebreaker. It’s also the only passenger ship in the world with a PC2 polar-class hull, built to safely navigate through heavy, multiyear polar ice inaccessible to other expedition ships. Her hybrid LNG-and-electric propulsion, giant battery capacity, and 360-degree Azipod propulsion units were designed to take Vacayans farther into the polar world with unmatched maneuverability, stability, and environmental consideration.

And yet, inside, Charcot feels less like an icebreaker and more like your floating polar sanctuary.

Arctic gay cruise polar plunge

THE ICEBREAKER ADVANTAGE
Most ships admire the polar ice from a distance. Charcot was built to enter it, and that changes everything. It means the ice itself becomes part of the experience: the pressure ridges, the shifting floes, the open leads, the immense silence, the thrill of pushing north through a landscape that seems to rearrange itself by the hour. This isn’t transit. This is the adventure.

Arctic gay cruise outdoor

OUTDOOR SPACES
The outside decks are spectacular. Inneq, the outdoor bar, offers heated seating and the perfect place to warm up with a drink while watching the polar world pass by. The ship’s end-to-end promenade deck allows you to walk completely around the vessel – a rare feature on today’s newest ships – while heated benches and Swarovski Optik spotting scopes turn wildlife viewing into an event of its own.

Arctic gay cruise entertainment

INSIDE THE SHIP
Charcot’s interiors are every bit as memorable as the landscapes outside. You’ll relax in spacious lounges, retreat to the elegant Cigar Lounge, browse travel and exploration books in Anori, the library within the panoramic lounge, or gather in Kita, the theater, for performances, briefings, and lectures led by naturalists, experts, and distinguished guests.

Arctic gay cruise sauna

WELLNESS & RELAXATION
Le Commandant Charcot turns wellness into part of the expedition narrative. The ship’s spa and relaxation spaces draw from Inuit language and Arctic spirit: Siku is the snow room, Ikuma the sauna, Nuan the treatment area, and Imaq the indoor pool space with panoramic windows and a Detox Bar. There’s also a hair and nail salon overlooking the horizon, plus a fitness center with coach-led classes ranging from yoga and Pilates to meditation, stretching, and strength training.

Arctic gay cruise dining

DINING
Dining aboard Charcot deserves its own spotlight. Nuna, meaning “earth” in Inuit, is the only Alain Ducasse gourmet restaurant at sea, serving menus created by the Michelin-starred chef, often drawing on local produce and flavors alongside signature Ducasse dishes. A second restaurant and grill round out the ship’s culinary offering, ensuring every meal feels thoughtful, beautiful, and deeply satisfying.

Arctic gay cruise expedition

RESPONSIBLE EXPLORATION
One of the most compelling things about Charcot is that her engineering ambition is matched by environmental seriousness. Charcot is "Clean Ship" certified by Bureau Veritas and highlights custom routing software, speed management to optimize energy use, seawater treatment and recycling, reduced underwater noise and vibration, electronic positioning that can avoid anchoring in protected areas, and dockside battery use to cut emissions. The hybrid LNG/electric system is designed to reduce carbon emissions and dramatically cut nitrogen oxide and fine particle discharge. Even the Blue Lagoon baths and promenade benches are heated using recovered propulsion energy.

Arctic gay cruise - Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen

Day 1 - Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen (Norway)
Welcome to Longyearbyen, the northernmost territorial capital on Earth and the gateway to one of the most remote regions on the planet. Set against a dramatic backdrop of soaring mountains, sweeping glaciers, and vast Arctic wilderness, this former mining town feels like the edge of the known world. In every direction, the scenery is raw, powerful, and breathtakingly beautiful, offering your first thrilling taste of the extraordinary adventure ahead.

Spitsbergen Arctic gay cruise

Day 2 - At Sea along Spitsbergen
Today, your journey truly begins as Le Commandant Charcot sails along the spectacular coast of Spitsbergen, the last great landmass before the Arctic ice floe. Named for its "pointed mountains", this wild and jagged island is a masterpiece of towering peaks, ancient glaciers, and deep fjords carved by time itself. From the decks of Charcot, take in a landscape of staggering beauty, where seabirds soar overhead and every turn reveals another unforgettable Arctic panorama.

Day 3 - Navigating through the Sea Ice
Today, Le Commandant Charcot ventures into the mesmerizing world of the Arctic ice floe, where the horizon is painted in endless shades of white and blue. Here, the scenery is in constant motion. Vast, glassy plains of ice give way to broken floes, sculptural ridges, and winding leads of open water. As Charcot threads its way through this frozen frontier, you’ll experience the rare thrill of entering a landscape few travelers on Earth will ever witness.

Day 4 - Navigating through the Sea Ice
By now, the Arctic reveals itself not as stillness, but as a living, shifting masterpiece. The sea ice stretches in every direction, ever-changing in texture and form, from smooth frozen expanses to dramatic clusters of drifting ice. Sailing through naturally opened passages and thinner pockets of ice, you’ll find yourself immersed in a world of profound silence, stark beauty, and extraordinary serenity, with every moment offering a new perspective on this remote polar realm.

Day 5 - Navigating through the Sea Ice
As our journey north continues, the magic of the ice deepens. This is a place where nature writes the itinerary, where no two views are ever the same, and where each hour brings a fresh encounter with the raw power of the polar environment. Keep watch from the deck as the ship glides through drifting sea ice, a vital habitat for Arctic wildlife uniquely adapted to life in this region. It’s an awe-inspiring day of exploration in one of the planet’s last true wildernesses.

North Pole gay expedition

Day 6 - Geographic North Pole
Today, you don’t just visit a destination. You achieve one of the rarest travel milestones on Earth, one that will remain uniquely yours for all time.

At 90° North, all lines of longitude converge, every direction points south, and the world as we know it simply falls away. There is no permanent settlement here, no harbor, no road. Only a shifting realm of ice at the very top of the planet, reached by only a tiny fraction of humanity throughout history. For generations, the Geographic North Pole lived in the realm of myth, obsession, and heroic exploration. Now, aboard the incomparable Le Commandant Charcot, that almost-unimaginable triumph becomes your reality.

To stand at the North Pole is to stand at the apex of the Earth itself, in a place so remote, so extreme, and so utterly extraordinary that few people who have ever lived can say they’ve been here. This isn’t just a bucket-list moment. It is a history-making, soul-stirring, bragging-rights-forever kind of moment.

North Pole Santa

Day 7 - Geographic North Pole
And just when you think this once-in-a-lifetime achievement couldn’t possibly become more extraordinary, you wake up to a second full day at the Geographic North Pole. That’s a privilege so rare it borders on unbelievable. While most who reach this mythical point can claim only a fleeting visit, you’ll have more time to fully absorb the wonder, the remoteness, and the sheer bragging rights of being here. Two days at the top of the world isn’t just exceptional. It’s the kind of travel triumph almost no one on Earth will ever experience. Ho! Ho! Ho!

Day 8 - Navigating through the Sea Ice
After two unforgettable days at the Geographic North Pole, the world feels different now. As Le Commandant Charcot begins her southbound passage through the sea ice, you’ll see this frozen wilderness with new eyes. What once felt remote and mysterious now feels deeply personal, a powerful, ever-shifting landscape of sculpted ice, luminous water, and breathtaking silence that has already become part of your story forever.

Day 9 - Navigating through the Sea Ice
Today offers time to reflect on the enormity of what you’ve just experienced while remaining fully immersed in the raw beauty of the High Arctic. The sea ice stretches around you in dazzling forms, from wide, unbroken sheets to fractured floes and winding channels carved by nature itself. It’s a place of quiet drama and profound wonder, where every glance from the deck reminds you that you’ve gone farther than almost anyone ever will.

Polar adventure gay cruise

Day 10 - Navigating through the Sea Ice
As our polar journey continues, the Arctic seems to reveal itself in even deeper ways. The rhythm of the ship against the ice, the endless daylight, the crisp air, and the possibility of spotting wildlife uniquely adapted to this extreme environment all combine to create moments that feel both thrilling and deeply moving. You’re no longer simply traveling through the ice floe. You’re returning from the North Pole, forever marked by its majesty.

Ny-Alesund, Spitsbergen Arctic gay cruise

Day 11 - Ny-Alesund, Spitsbergen (Norway)
Today, step ashore in legendary Ny-Ålesund, one of the northernmost settlements on Earth and a place woven deeply into the story of Arctic exploration. Once a remote mining town, it’s since transformed into an international scientific outpost where researchers from around the world study this extraordinary polar environment. It was also from here that famed explorer Roald Amundsen launched pioneering expeditions toward the North Pole, giving this tiny settlement an outsized place in history. As you wander this remarkable outpost, you’ll feel the rare thrill of standing where great polar ambitions once began. Be sure to visit the local museum for a deeper look into the area’s fascinating past, and don’t miss the iconic post office, celebrated as one of the northernmost in the world. It’s a charming, memorable stop that beautifully connects the heroic age of Arctic exploration with the cutting-edge science of today.

Spitsbergen Arctic gay expedition

Day 12 - Northwest region of Spitsbergen
Today, your Arctic adventure culminates in the breathtaking northwest region of Spitsbergen, a realm of astonishing contrasts where raw wilderness reigns supreme. Here, islands and peninsulas scatter across icy seas, while fjords, jagged peaks, and immense glaciers create a landscape of almost surreal grandeur. With every shift in the light, this polar masterpiece reveals a new mood, from shimmering serenity to stark, dramatic majesty. It’s a place so pristine and so profoundly beautiful, it feels less like a destination and more like the edge of another world. As you explore by Zodiac alongside expert naturalist guides, this extraordinary environment comes thrillingly to life. Watch for whales gliding through glacial waters, seals and walrus hauled out along the shore, and Arctic foxes darting across the tundra. Svalbard reindeer roam the open expanses, Arctic terns wheel overhead, and, if fortune smiles upon you, you may even spot the Arctic’s most iconic resident: the polar bear (or ice bear, as they’re known around these parts), moving with quiet power along the ice-bound coast. It’s a stirring final immersion into one of the last great wildernesses on Earth.

Arctic Gay Expedition Spitsbergen

Day 13 - Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen (Norway)
Your extraordinary adventure comes full circle today as we return to Longyearbyen, the remarkable Arctic outpost where this once-in-a-lifetime journey began. But you won’t return the same person who departed. You’ll come back having stood at the Geographic North Pole, sailed through a frozen world few humans will ever witness, encountered the raw majesty of the High Arctic, and lived a travel story that will stay with you forever. Set against Longyearbyen’s dramatic mountains, glaciers, and vast polar silence, this final moment is both a homecoming and a celebration of all you’ve just achieved.
