 Gay friendly Hotel Maritimo is located in a priviliged area of Ibiza town, sea side on the Figueretas Paseo Maritimo (maritime boulevard). The hotel was totally renovated recently.
And now, following a programme of modernisation which includes the addition of air-conditioning, a small indoor pool and a Jacuzzi, there are even more reasons to put the Maritimo down on your list of 'possibles'.
Located smack bang on Figueretas beach, the Maritimo occupies one half of a crescent shaped building overlooking the promenade. Five star luxury it ain't, but as soon as you enter the hotel the modern décor and airy feel of the reception area and lounge strikes you straight away. In the basement of the hotel, on the same level as the promenade, there's a restaurant where your buffet breakfast and dinner will be served. However, if you feel a sun-induced thirst or the occasional hunger pang creeping up on you, there's an outside terrace open most of the time.
Owing to the shape of the hotel, its rooms are best described as either 'interior' or 'exterior'. Most but not all of the exterior rooms have a partial seaview from the balcony or small terrace, although in some cases this view is obscured by an abundance of plant life and trees. And although most of the interior rooms also have balconies, the view is not especially exciting unless you have an alarming fetish for 1960's architecture.
Each of the Maritimo's bedrooms is simple yet modern in its design, with that all-important air conditioning and a television, and they all have a private bathroom (loo, basin, shower and mirror so you don't have to shave by Braille). Strangely, although most of the bedrooms seem to feature both a double and a single bed, the management won't let anyone not registered stay overnight, so if that's your bag you're probably best to look elsewhere. Towels are changed and rooms are cleaned daily, with bedlinen changed three times a week.
Safety deposit boxes are available and strongly recommended. To add to the feeling of security, most of the hotel is covered by a camera security system.
