 France is a place where everyday life somehow feels artful. Breakfast comes with warm pastries, afternoons stretch into museums and markets, and evenings seem designed for good food, good wine, and long conversations. It’s a country of contrasts: royal palaces and quiet villages, ancient ruins and modern cities, vineyard-draped hills and lively riverfronts, all existing side by side.
Across 11 days, you’ll experience famous sights along with moments that feel delightfully ordinary: a picnic, a tasting, a quiet square at sunset. The itinerary balances structure and freedom, city bustle and countryside calm, group time and personal discovery. Come with curiosity, France will handle the rest.
This journey begins in Paris, where icons like the Louvre, the Seine, and the Eiffel Tower remind you why the city has inspired so many. From there, the tempo changes as we travel into Burgundy, a region shaped by centuries of winemaking, medieval streets, and traditional food culture. Lyon brings another shift, a vibrant city known as the culinary heart of France, full of neighbourhoods made for wandering and tasting. Continuing along the Rhône, the landscape softens into Provence, where Roman history, Avignon’s papal past, colorful markets, and Van Gogh’s sunlight create an unmistakable southern rhythm.

Additional spending budget?
Your big-ticket items are included through the trip, but you'll want to budget for additional spending such as additional meals, drinks, shopping, activities, etc. These costs can vary dramatically with differing personal habits but we suggest expecting to spend an additional $1100 USD at the lower end for the more budget-conscious and $1500 USD at the higher end for the splurgers. We suggest arriving with approximately 300 EUR in cash for those items that are more cash-friendly.
Days 1, 2 and 3
Our adventure begins in Paris, where grand avenues, corner cafés, and the gentle curve of the Seine set the tone for our journey. Over the next two days, we ease into Parisian life and start to find our rhythm in France. With our transport pass in hand, we move effortlessly through the city, discovering elegant boulevards, lively neighborhoods, and iconic landmarks that suddenly feel wonderfully real rather than just images in a book.
We may take in sweeping views from the Eiffel Tower (optional) and join a guided visit through the Louvre, where many of the world’s most famous masterpieces are housed and stories from centuries of art come to life. Evenings encourage us to slow down and savor the moment, lingering on café terraces, strolling along the riverbanks, or enjoying our illuminated dinner cruise along the Seine as the city lights shimmer around us.
We also step outside the city to explore Versailles, wandering the Hall of Mirrors, royal apartments, and the grand formal gardens that once set the stage for French royalty and court life.
Days 4, and 5
We shift gears as we travel from Paris to Dijon, trading the capital’s big-city buzz for Burgundy’s medieval charm. Our centrally located hotel places us within easy reach of cobbled streets, Renaissance façades, and quiet squares that feel unchanged by time. Here, history and gastronomy meet in everyday life.
We discover Dijon with a guided tour that brings the stories of the Dukes of Burgundy to life, visit landmarks such as the Ducal Palace and Notre-Dame, and follow the famous Owl Trail through the historic center. A climb of the Philippe le Bon Tower rewards us with sweeping views over the rooftops before we continue exploring museums, boutiques, and local specialties. Surrounded by vineyards and countryside, Dijon offers a relaxed pace and rich sense of place, the perfect moment in the trip to slow down, wander, and savor Burgundy’s atmosphere.
Days 6, and 7
We continue our journey through Burgundy as we travel from Dijon to Beaune, where tradition, craftsmanship, and wine culture come together. Here we visit the historic Fallot mustard mill, discovering how this regional specialty is still produced and enjoying tastings that showcase different flavors and styles. The road then leads us south through vineyard-covered hills toward Lyon, and the landscape gradually shifts from countryside calm to riverfront city life.
Arriving in Lyon, we are welcomed by the meeting of the Rhône and Saône and the elegant architecture that defines the city. A panoramic tour introduces us to its major highlights: the hilltop Basilique de Fourvière with its sweeping views, the Renaissance passageways and lanes of Vieux Lyon, and the lively Presqu’île with its grand squares and shopping streets. With our Lyon City Card, we have easy access to local transport, museums, and cultural experiences, giving us plenty of freedom to explore at our own pace. Lyon invites us to slow down, savor its cuisine, and enjoy a city long celebrated as the gastronomic capital of France.
Days 8, 9, 10, and 11
From Lyon, our journey carries us south into Provence, where the light changes, the air warms, and life takes on a slower rhythm. Along the way we follow the Rhône Valley, stopping to experience the region through its flavors, from a visit to the Cité du Chocolat to a winery tasting among Hermitage vineyards and even a traditional nougat factory where local sweetness has been crafted for generations.
We then arrive in Avignon, our base within the historic ramparts, where papal history and sun-washed stone streets set the scene. We explore the immense Palais des Papes, wander its peaceful gardens, and step onto the legendary Pont d’Avignon. Our farewell dinner cruise lets us see the city from the water as the evening light settles over the palace and bridge. We also visit the Pont du Gard, an astonishing Roman aqueduct, and continue to Arles to walk in the footsteps of Van Gogh and visit the foundation dedicated to his work.
Our adventure together ends surrounded by Provençal color, history, and unforgettable landscapes. We'll have a final dinner together here in Avignon before departing on the 11th day - home or on to more adventures.

The Climate
The climate in France between in August and September is generally warm and pleasant, making it an excellent time to travel. Daytime temperatures usually range from 18–28°C (64–82°F), with the hottest weather in August, especially in Provence and the south. Longer daylight hours make this an ideal season for sightseeing and outdoor dining.
August bring lively festivals and peak summer energy. September is comfortably cooler, with grape harvests in wine regions and softer autumn light.
Rainfall is possible year-round, with summer thunderstorms and breezier conditions along the coasts. We recommend packing layers, comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, and a light waterproof jacket to stay prepared across regions and seasons during your French adventure.
The People & LGBTQ+ Friendliness
France is widely recognized as one of the most progressive and LGBTQ+-welcoming countries in Europe, with strong legal protections and a visible queer culture across many regions.
Same-sex marriage has been legal nationwide since 2013, and comprehensive anti-discrimination laws protect LGBTQ+ individuals in employment, services, and public life. Paris is home to one of Europe’s most vibrant LGBTQ+ scenes, centered around the Marais district, with Pride celebrations, bars, and community spaces that are welcoming and diverse. Cities such as Lyon, Nice, Montpellier, Marseille, and Toulouse also offer lively LGBTQ+ communities, events, and nightlife.
While major cities naturally have the strongest queer visibility, travelers generally experience a high level of acceptance throughout the country. Smaller towns and rural areas are typically polite and relaxed, reflecting France’s emphasis on personal freedom, respect, and everyday courtesy, helping make the country an inviting destination for LGBTQ+ travelers.
The Cuisine
The cuisine in France is an essential part of the travel experience, celebrated for its regional diversity and deep connection to tradition, seasonality, and terroir. From bustling markets to elegant bistros, food is treated as both daily ritual and art form.
In Paris, we can enjoy café classics such as croissants, flaky pastries, cheese and charcuterie boards, and beautifully prepared dishes paired with wine. Burgundy invites us into the world of gastronomy, where rich sauces, boeuf bourguignon, escargots, and world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay reflect centuries of winemaking heritage. Lyon, long known as the culinary capital of France, tempts us with bouchons serving comforting specialties like quenelles, saucisson, and praline desserts.
Farther south in Provence, Mediterranean influences take over with fresh seafood, olive oil, herbs, ratatouille, and rosé enjoyed in the warm evening air. From simple market picnics to memorable multi-course dinners, France offers a culinary journey where every region tells its story through food and wine.
What to bring?
Packing smart will make our time in France more comfortable across different regions and seasons. Lightweight, breathable clothing is ideal for warm days, while a light sweater or jacket is useful for cooler evenings, especially in spring and autumn. Comfortable walking shoes are essential for cobblestone streets, museums, and guided city tours. A compact rain jacket or umbrella is helpful, as showers can occur at any time of year.
Sun protection—hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen—is important for river cruises, outdoor cafés, and sightseeing in Provence. A European power adapter, reusable water bottle, and small daypack will also come in handy for daily excursions and train travel. If you plan to enjoy the pool in Avignon, swimwear is useful as well. Most importantly, bring a sense of curiosity and an appetite for discovery—France is best enjoyed at a relaxed pace, one experience at a time.

It is important to note, that our train from Paris to Dijon has a 2 bag capacity and will require you to board your own bags on and off the train.
Money
France uses the Euro (EUR). Credit and debit cards are widely accepted across the country, in hotels, restaurants, shops, museums, and train stations, and contactless “tap” payments are very common. Still, it’s useful to have a small amount of cash on hand for cafés, local markets, small purchases, and tipping in certain situations. ATMs are easy to find in cities and towns, though your bank may charge international withdrawal or conversion fees.
We do not recommend bringing large amounts of U.S. cash to exchange on arrival, as rates and fees can be less favorable. Instead, plan to use cards for most purchases and withdraw euros from ATMs as needed during the trip.
Tipping
Tipping customs in France are meant to acknowledge good service but are generally modest and not obligatory, as service charges are typically included in restaurant and café prices.
In sit-down restaurants, it is common to leave a small additional gratuity for good service, often rounding up the bill or adding about 5%–10%, especially if service was attentive. Always check the bill first, as service compris usually means the service charge is already included.
In cafés and bars, it’s typical simply to round up or leave small change. For taxis, rounding up to the nearest euro or adding a couple of euros is sufficient.
Hotel staff such as porters and housekeeping appreciate small tips (about €2 - €5). For local guides and drivers on excursions, a general guideline is €5 - €10 per person per day to recognize excellent service throughout the trip.
Our recommended tip for your trip leader is about $10 - $15 USD per day.
Accommodation
We have pretty high standards when it comes to choosing our accommodations, and trust us, we’ve done plenty of room-sniffing, pillow-patting, bed-jumping and bathroom inspections to make sure we stay at quality spots. To be approved as an accommodations provider, a hotel/guesthouse must be in an amazing location, AND be gay-owned or gay-friendly.
This trip uses a mix of roughly 4-star properties, examples of which can be found on the accommodations tab. Clean, comfortable, well-located spots that'll put a smile on your face, you can count on that!
Trip Leaders
Our trips are led by one of our own gay trip leaders. They're with you every step of the way, and their job is to help ensure that you have the trip of a lifetime by taking the hassle out of your trip, and enabling you to experience everything you came to France for! Consider them like a friendly concierge that's traveling along with you. All of our trip leaders are gay and all are well-traveled and experienced in the destination they're leading in, so they'll be a great part of your experience!
Alarm Clocks
We do everything we can to avoid starting our days with an alarm clock. A world without beeping wake-ups is one we fully support, and in France we’d much rather let the morning arrive with the aroma of fresh croissants and coffee drifting through the hotel than a shrill ringtone. Occasionally an early departure is necessary due to sightseeing schedules or travel logistics, but we keep these to a minimum whenever possible. Our goal is for mornings to feel relaxed, unhurried, and very French—easing into the day rather than racing into it.
Your Group
Our groups are run with a maximum of 16 travelers. Ages of group members vary but most of our travelers are between 50 and 60 years. Whatever the ages on our trips everyone's already got something in common, an exciting new experience in a couple new countries. Each group is led by trip leader who is there to ensure everything goes off without a hitch, allowing you to focus on having the time of your life! We welcome both men and women onto our trips although it’s important to know that most groups are 100% gay men.
Solo Travelers
Traveling solo? Great! Lots of our travelers come solo and our trip will provide plenty of chances to meet great people both inside and outside of our group, including other solo travelers. As far as your accommodations go, you’ve got two choices. We can either pair you up with another solo group member in a room with two beds for no extra charge, or you can have your own room for a reasonable surcharge.
Electrical Outlets
In France, electrical outlets use the Type E plug (two round pins with a grounding pin). Many Type C plugs (two round pins without ground) also fit into French outlets, but devices that require grounding will need Type E–compatible plugs. You will typically only need this one adapter type for the entire trip. France operates on a standard voltage of 230V and a frequency of 50Hz.
