Day 2 - Tuesday, September 22, 2026
Spend the morning at leisure to recover from travel. Breakfast and lunch are included at the hotel.
Following lunch, we’ll embark on a tour of Colombo, a developing capital city, which is changing rapidly with new skyscrapers replacing old buildings. Some parts of the city still retain their old-world charm, including the historic clock tower and colonial buildings. There are many places of interest, such as the Pettah bazaar, several churches, a Hindu and a Buddhist temple, residential areas with stately homes, the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, Independence Square, Nelum Pokuna theater, Town Hall/Victoria Park, Old Parliament, and the Galle Face Greens.
Tonight we’ll enjoy dinner at a local restaurant before returning to our hotel for a restful night.

Day 3 - Wednesday, September 23, 2026
Folllowing breakfast, we check out and transfer to Bentota to visit the Geoffery Bawa Lunuganga Estate. Nestled near Bentota, Lunuganga Estate was the enchanting country home of Geoffrey Bawa, Sri Lanka’s legendary architect and the pioneer of tropical modernism. This serene property, surrounded by lush gardens, reflects Bawa’s visionary blend of art, architecture, and nature. Each corner of the estate tells a story, with hidden sculptures, breathtaking views of Dedduwa Lake, and intricately landscaped spaces. Visitors can immerse themselves in Bawa’s world, exploring the estate’s elegant interiors and tranquil gardens that exude timeless charm and creativity. A visit to Lunuganga is a journey into the heart of Sri Lankan design heritage.
We’ll also enjoy lunch at the estate before heading off to a turtle hatchery in Kosgoda. The Turtle Farm is a great place to see turtles of different ages. It’s run by the Wildlife Protection Society of Sri Lanka. This hatchery protects several species of turtles, especially the endangered hawksbill. The most vulnerable of all are their eggs, which are left uncovered on beaches all around the coast. However, the goodwill of Kosgoda’s fishermen, who bring these eggs to the hatchery for free, has led to the hatching of around 100,000 young turtles in only two years since the hatchery opened.
After we’re off to Balapitiya for a boat ride to discover the serene waters of the Madu River through the stunning mangroves. You’ll also get the opportunity to visit a Temple and a Cinnamon Island. During the trip, you’ll be able to witness the daily life of the villagers and appreciate the breathtaking beauty of nature all around you.
At the end of the day we arrive to our hotel for check-in and dinner.

Day 4 - Thursday, September 24, 2026
After breakfast we visit Galle City. Explore the majestic 16th-century fort, which has been recognized as an Archaeological Reserve by UNESCO. Galle, once the prime port of Ceylon, is famous for its hand-made lace. This historic city is a delight to explore on foot, featuring splendid Dutch-colonial buildings, ancient mosques and churches, grand mansions, and museums. As you wander through its winding lanes, you’ll come across stylish cafes, quirky boutiques, and beautifully restored hotels owned by local and foreign artists, writers, photographers, and designers.
Following lunch at the Merchant Hotel, we return to our hotel for an afternoon at leisure before enjoying dinner together at our hotel.

Day 5 - Friday, September 25, 2026
This morning, after breakfast, we depart for Yala. On the way, we’ll make a stop at Weligama, which is famous for its stilt fishermen. Then we’ll have lunch at Maya Tangalle, before continuing to Yala National Park to check in at Cinnamon Wild.
Yala National Park is the second largest wildlife reserve in Sri Lanka, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the beauty of an untamed world of animals. The park is home to a vast variety of wildlife, including 44 different species of mammals and 215 species of birds. Among its most famous residents are the largest concentration of leopards in the world, majestic elephants, sloth bears, sambars, jackals, spotted deer, peacocks, and crocodiles.

After, we return to Cinnamon Wild for dinner and a restful night.

Day 7 - Sunday, September 27, 2026
After breakfast, we check out and go to Ella to view the Nine Arch Bridge, also known as “Ahas namaye palama” in Sinhala. The bridge was constructed in 1921 during the British Colonial period. It is located at Gotuwala, between the two railway stations of Ella and Demodara, and stands at an impressive height of 99.6 feet above sea level. This massive bridge, which is built entirely of solid rocks, bricks, and cement, is often referred to as ‘The Bridge in the Sky’ due to its sheer height. Notably, it was built without using any steel.
Following lunch at EKHO Ella Hotel, we proceed to Nuwara Eliya, which is Sri Lanka’s most popular hill resort because of its invigorating mountain climate and scenery. Upon arrival we check in to The Golden Ridge Hotel for dinner and a restful night’s sleep.

Day 8 - Monday, September 28, 2026
We depart early this morning with a packed breakfast. We’re off to Horton Plains National Park.
Horton Plains National Park ("Maha-Eliya" in Sinhala) is a national park covered by mountain grassland and cloud forest in the central highlands of Sri Lanka. It lies at a height of more than 2,000 m (over 6500 ft.) and its altitude means that it has a much cooler and windier climate than the lowlands of Sri Lanka, with a mean annual temperature of 16°C (60.8°F) rather than the 26°C (78°F)of the coasts. The park is rich in biodiversity and many species found here are endemic to the region. Three of the island’s largest rivers – the Mahawali, Kelani and Walawe originate from the Horton Plains. The trek to the World’s End and Baker’s fall are among the attractions of the park.
After we visit a tea plantation and a tea factory, where the best tea in the World is produced. Here you could observe all about the process of manufacturing tea. You can also see how tea is graded. Taste a cup of pure Ceylon tea in the factory.
We’ll enjoy lunch at Somerset Tea Factory before returning to our hotel for some time at leisure and dinner at the hotel.

Day 9 - Tuesday, September 29, 2026
After breakfast, we transfer to the Nanu Oya Railway Station where we board the train to Kandy.
Know as one of the most scenic journeys in Sri Lanka. It typically takes around 3 hours and 55 minutes covering approximately 95 kilometers (59 miles), passing through lush tea plantations, misty mountains, and charming villages. Travelers often highlight the breathtaking views and the opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Sri Lanka’s hill country. The train itself is a mix of modern and traditional, offering both comfort and a touch of nostalgia.
Upon arrival we have lunch at Grand Serendib Hotel in Kandy, before embarking on a tour of Kandy.
Kandy city, the ancient capital of Sri Lanka’s kings and a UNESCO World Heritage site is home to the Temple of the Tooth Relic, an important symbol of Buddhist culture, faith, and history. We’ll explore the city by driving around the beautiful Kandy Lake, which was built by the last Sinhala king, Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, in 1798. While there, we’ll visit the local town and explore The Bazaar, an arts and crafts center, a gem museum, and a lapidary. Kandy is a lively and vibrant city.
We’ll of course visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic which stands majestically as a symbol of culture, faith and history in the Buddhist belief. With a history that goes back to the 16th Century, to the time of King Wimaladharmasuriya 1, the structure seen today was built by King Narensdrasinghe (1707 AD). The tooth was brought to Sri Lanka in the 4th Century A.D., hidden in a princess’ hair. Since then, it has changed homes several times and was relocated to Kandy in 1590 where it has stayed to this day. Beautiful paintings and carvings, mainly from the Kandyan era, the golden Paththirippuwa, a library, the Royal Palace and many more edifices present much to see and experience. Here you’ll witness a cultural show featuring the traditional Sri Lankan dancing in many different acts where the show ends with some of the Performers Walk on the fire and make the final act using fire.

After we check in to The Golden Crown Hotel and tonight we have dinner at Aloy Restaurant in Kandy.

Day 10 - Wednesday, September 30, 2026
Enjoy breakfast and a morning at leisure today before we head to Senani Restaurant in Kandy.
After, we’ll visit Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens, the largest botanical gardens of Sri Lanka and the finest of its kind in Asia. It was first built as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala king and was expanded by the British. It is 147 acres in extent and provides an amazing variety of trees, plants, and flowers.
After our visit, we return to the hotel for dinner.

Day 11 - Thursday, October 01, 2026
After breakfast at the hotel, we check out and depart for a visit to a spice garden in Matale, which is famous for the variety of spices grown in Sri Lanka. You will have the opportunity to explore the garden and learn how different spices are produced and processed. Additionally, there will be a cookery demonstration where you can witness how to use these spices in your daily life and enjoy a cup of spice tea. As a bonus, a free massage will be offered during your visit.
We’ll also enjoy lunch at the spice garden before we depart for a visit to Nalanda Gedige, which is a curious hybrid of Buddhist and Hindu architecture. This ancient complete stone built Hindu Temple has been constructed during a period of great turmoil on the island, with South Indian kings establishing themselves in the wake of the decline of the Sinhalese monarchy.
Then, we continue to Sigiriya for check in and dinner at Heritance Kandalama.

Day 12 - Friday, October 02, 2026
Today, following breakfast we visit Sri Lanka’s most popular historical tourist attraction and a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the ruins of the ancient capital, Sigiriya. It is the pride of Sri Lanka and often referred by many as the ‘Eighth wonder of the world’. A visit to Sigiriya Rock Fortress not only reveals ruins & frescoes but vestiges of one of the greatest planned cities in Asia.
Climbing Sigiriya Rock Fortress is a memorable adventure that takes about 1.5 to 2 hours and involves over 1,200 steps. The journey begins at the Boulder Gardens and ascends through the Terraced Gardens, Mirror Wall, and Sigiriya Frescoes. The most iconic part is the Lion Staircase, leading to the Sky Palace at the summit. The climb offers stunning views, historical landmarks, and the ruins of an ancient palace. It’s a moderately difficult climb, but the views make it a rewarding experience for visitors. After we head for lunch at Cinnamon Lodge in Habarana.
Following lunch we continue to Minneriya/Kaudulla National and Eco Parks for a 4×4 wild elephant safari. This park covers more than 7,000 hectares around two artificial lakes where you can observe different animals including elephants, rare birds and deer. The reserve is home to more than 400 elephants.
Then we return to our beautiful hotel for dinner and a restful night.

Day 13 - Saturday, October 03, 2026
Awake to another delicious breakfast at the hotel before departing for Mihintale.
12 Kilometers East of Anuradhapura is the place where teachings of Buddhism were first introduced to the people of Sri Lanka, Mihintale. At that time the ruler King Devanampiyatissa built a complete monastery complex in Mihintale with hospitals, ponds, stupas and many more facilities which some of them could be still seen as ruins while climbing to the summit. On the highest platform is the Mihintale Maha Seya Dagaba, one of the first stupas in the island which according to the legend enshrined hairs of the Buddha. This majestic white stupa, which lay in ruins was completely restored.
After our visit we enjoy lunch at Heritage Hotel Anuradhapura and then we visit Anuradhapura’s Ancient City.
Anuradhapura, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a city with a rich history and many temples and buildings. It was founded in the 4th century and had over 100 kings who ruled over it. The city is home to impressive structures like towering stupas, including the world’s tallest brick monument, the Jethavanarama Dagoba, and the Ruwanweliseya dagoba, built in the 2nd century BC. Visitors should also check out The First Monastery, Lowamahapaya, Samadhi Buddha Statue, Moonstone, Kuttam Pokuna, and the Isurumuniya rock temple.
Following, we return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

U.S. citizens intending to visit Sri Lanka for purposes of tourism or transit require an approval notice from Sri Lanka’s Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) System), onward/return ticket, and proof of sufficient funds. The ETA system is available online or at the port of entry; however, visitors are strongly urged to use the online system to avoid lengthy delays at the port of entry. This travel authorization allows entry for up to 30 days. Citizens of countries other than the US should consult their nearest embassy or consulate for their entry requirements.

What arrival and departure transfers are included?
This package includes an arrival transfer from the Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) to the host hotel and a departure transfer from the Heritance Negombo Hotel, to theColombo Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB). If you extend your stay at the same hotel, the transfers will still be included. Contact our team to ensure arrangements outside of these arrival and departure transfers will be included. Booked guests should provide their arrival and departure details 45 days prior to the trip to ensure transfer availability.
What if I have dietary requirements?
We will make every effort to accommodate special dietary requests. Please inform our office at least 45 days prior to departure of these requests.
What are pre-paid gratuities?
Gratuities are customary expressions of appreciation for a job well done. It is our goal to ensure that the service you receive is as wonderful as the sites you visit. Gratuities for the included portions of this program have been pre-paid. At your own discretion you may choose to provide additional tips.

What should I expect on the included tours?
Excursions during your travel program are led by expert English speaking local guides. All included excursions in this trip will range between very easy to hard. If you need accommodations based on your abilities, contact us before booking this travel program.
Is there a dress code?
You are on vacation as the last thing we want to impose is a dress code. You may wish to pack a few nicer outfits for the beautiful hotel properties where we’ll stay, however attire throughout the rest of the itinerary should be expeditionary casual. We will provide more specific attire suggestions closer to trip departure. Please note, some religious sites will require your knees and shoulders to be covered.
Are vaccinations required?
Most US travelers are covered by routine vaccinations. US citizens should consult the Centers for Disease Control website or your health care provider for vaccination requirements and recommendations. Citizens of all other countries should consult their government’s national disease center or their physician.
