Breakfast at the Hotel: Enjoy a wonderful Western and Japanese breakfast at our hotel.
Morning at Leisure.
Historically the commercial capital of Japan, with a population of 2.6 million, Osaka is Japan’s third-largest metropolis and the second most important business city. It has been the economic powerhouse of the Kansai region for centuries. Osaka gained prominence when a powerful warlord built the country’s most magnificent castle in the 16th century. To develop resources for his castle town, the ruler persuaded merchants from other parts of the nation to resettle in Osaka, making it an important distribution center. As the merchant class prospered, the town grew, and traditional arts, such as kabuki and bunraku, flourished. With the legacy of the city’s commercial beginnings still intact, Osaka is renowned as an international business center.
We’ll begin our day with a visit to Osaka Castle, one of Japan’s most iconic landmarks. Surrounded by sweeping stone walls, scenic moats, and lush parkland, the castle offers a glimpse into the country’s feudal past while providing stunning views of the modern city that surrounds it.
Next, we visit Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, which has stood watch over Osaka Bay for almost 2,000 years. Founded by the legendary empress-regent Jingu in the third century, it honors four deities: a trio of sea gods called the Sumiyoshi Sanjin, and Empress Jingu herself, whose spirit was enshrined alongside them after her death.
We also enjoy an Okonomiyaki Lunch: Known as ‘Japan’s kitchen,’ Osaka boasts a culinary scene that is a feast for the senses. Take a stroll down Dotonbori, a former pleasure district turned restaurant mecca. Here, we can indulge in local delicacies, experiencing the true essence of Osaka’s gastronomic prowess. Our lunch will be an Okonomiyaki, a savory Japanese pancake, primarily made of a wheat flour batter, shredded cabbage, and a variety of fillings. The name translates to “grilled as you like it,” reflecting the wide range of ingredients that can be incorporated.
Japan’s third-largest city, Osaka is known for its flamboyance, fun-loving people, and, above all, amazing food. Feel the vibrant energy as you explore Dotonbori, immersing yourself in the lively atmosphere and culinary wonders that make Osaka a unique destination. Your day in Osaka promises a blend of cultural exploration, rich history, and a culinary adventure that reflects the spirit of this dynamic metropolis.
